Dr MAMES has been treating me for macular degeneration for about 16 years. My ophthalmologist sent me to him when she discovered I had it. I’m so thankful she did because he is in my opinion out of the ordinary. Caring and honest. I’ve had several.

I am a patient of Dr Mames and have been for about four years. Besides helping me with my eye problem, I want to commend Dr Mames and his staff for the way they schedule appointments. This is the only place (and I'm including hair dressers, drs, dentists - all places where you make appointments) where I am treated within minutes of my arrival. After I register and sit down to await being called back, the girls comes to dilate my eyes and I'm called back to the testing area within minutes. I do not have to wait once I'm in the testing area. I appreciate this courtesy because I believe my time is as valuable as the the next person. Dr Mames is also an excellent eye DR.

Dr. Mames and his staff are impressively proficient and diligent in staying abreast of medical developments that could benefit their patients.

Recently had a switch by the insurance company in pharmacies. Dr Mames staff went way above and beyond to see that I had the prescriptions I needed.

Dr. Mames is a very though doctor. He took an incredible amount of time with to make sure I was getting the right care. He was not quick to go to surgery, but rather waited to see if my body would heal on its own. I am glad he did, as things have improved on their own. He was able to squeeze me in, when he had no appointments and his staff is too notch.

In June 2022, I started having eye issues. I started seeing warped lines with my right eye. I also started seeing some double images. I went to the Retina Center and was seen by Dr. Robert Mames. My condition was diagnosed as a macular pucker. This condition occurs when wrinkles, creases or bulges form on your macula. This can make straight lines look wavy or you may have difficulty seeing details. This was all new to me, but I knew I had to get it fixed. Dr. Mames took the time to explain the condition and the surgery that could fix it. Our eyesight is a precious gift and I didn't want to lose any of it. The surgery went well. It took an hour and a half. I didn't need to be anesthetized but was given nerve block shots by Dr. Mames, resulting in no pain. It's been several weeks since my surgery and my healing process is good. Everyday my vision is improving and the wavy lines and double vision are almost gone.

Dr. Mames recently performed surgery for an epi retinal membrane. From the first time I visited his office until my last check up the service I received was stellar. The office staff are polite, kind, knowledgeable, and explain what they are doing throughout the entire office visit. The surgical team was wonderful through a procedure that could have been terrifying. Since my father was blind I take my eye health very seriously. I have full confidence in Dr. Mames and his staff to take the best care of my vision.

I have been a patient of Dr. Mames for several years. I recently had a wet AMD episode that severely impaired my vision. He saw me immediately and gave me an injection. He then based his treatment plan on what the scans and his examination showed. It was definitely his skill and diagnosis that led to my vision being almost totally restored in the affected eye. I was referred to Dr. Mames at The Retina Center by my Optician who noticed blood in my eye. There was so much blood in my eye I couldn’t see my hands in front of me. The staff was so friendly, welcoming and professional and Dr. Mames was God sent, he was so personable and knowledgeable and guided me every step of the way. After being evaluated it appears that I tore my retina. I ended up needing the cryotherapy procedure to stop the bleeding but there was too much blood in my eye so I underwent surgery to remove all the blood and repair my retina. Four weeks after surgery my vision is back 100% so thank you Dr. Mames & Staff.

I have been a patient at the Retina Center and Dr Robert Mames for several years. Dr. Mames and his staff have always been the ultimate professionals in providing for my care. Though strictly professional, the office atmosphere is one of caring and the Doctors and Staff all maintain a healthy sense of humor. As we emerge from the restrictions of the pandemic, the Retina Center continues to take precautions requiring masks and grouping vaccinated patient appointments together and unvaccinated patient appointments together. I have been a very satisfied patient of Dr. Mames for ten years. I originally saw him for a detached retina which he completely repaired with one surgery so that I have 20/20 vision in that eye. He is a thorough and dedicated professional who is as highly skilled as he is caring. I have recommended him to anyone who has a retina problem. Dr Mames has saved my eyesight not once but twice. As someone who has detached his retina twice (once in each eye). I can only thank God & Dr. Mames hard work for saving my eyesight and there fore my way of life. I was Thirty years old when it first happen due to being hit in the eye with a bungee cord. The second times was ten year ago, it detached all on its own. Both times Dr. Mames skill as a surgeon saved my life. I see almost 20/20 and am able to keep working and provide for my family. Dr. Robert Mames and the staff at the Retina Center in Ocala, FL are the epitome of outstanding health care professionals. The front staff you meet on entering are very friendly and exhibit a high degree of professionalism that provides a nice comfort level for the patient. This carries through to Dr. Mames himself. He is very laid back and explains all the procedures in detail the layman can understand. I had suffered a ruptured blood vessel in the eye that caused a tear in my retina. Being on a blood thinner made it more difficult to diagnose as my eye ball was filled with blood. It took several visits before Dr. Mames could locate the tear and close it with laser surgery. Then some freezing surgery was applied to provide more assurance the retina would stay attached. Without hesitation, I would recommend Dr. Mames and his staff at the retina center for your eye care. Thanks to them I still have full sight in the affected eye. I was treated at his Ocala, Fl center.

I was referred to the Retina Center for a problem of blurry vision in one eye. Dr. Mames diagnosed the situation and recommended a treatment without going to surgery, which was a standard option. The laser treatment improved the condition, and now it’s about a year later, and I am seeing better and am very thankful for Dr. Mames and his approach to treating my retina problem.
