Dr. Marsh ignored me when I said I was also having neck pain along with my back pain and joint pains. He fused an s.i. joint, did a laminectomy. All with zero help, I am worse.

Rude and terrible bedside manner
I have seen Dr. Marsh for about a year now for lumbar disc disease and severe spinal stenosis as well as pinched nerves on either side of my back. He knows that I am in severe pain but says that if I just move and exercise that it would get better but how am I supposed to do that when I have severe numbness in one of my legs and severe pain in both sides of my lower back and down both legs? He said to me that I should be happy that at least I do not have a terminal cancer diagnosis or a lupus diagnosis how can you even compare that to a debilitating spine condition in the first place??? This man is so rude and so uninterested in the pain you are in or what you have to say. I mean doesnt the patient know their body? Since they live in it? He sent me to a pain doctor at WVU as well who said that my lumbar decompression surgery was unsuccessful and that the nerve is still badly pinched and that the other side nerve was also pinched and that my imaging was worse than before but yet I go se

Gets the job done
I had a complicated case and Dr. Marsh was able to wade through all the BS and identify my problem. He delivered exactly what he said which was to stabilize my deterioration. My message to him is years after my procedure I’m off all the medications that led me to him. Thank you!!!!

Lumbar surgery
Went to several neurosurgeons who said I would need extensive surgery and 6 days in hospital. Marsh did a minimalist approach and got the most out of a same day simple fix. 5 yr out and could not be happier. Great surgeon.

Excellent Neurosurgeon
I've had back issues most of my life, but in the last 2 years, it's became worse. In the last year, I started to experience severe sciatica down both legs; at times dropping me downward with no warning, which lead to me needing a walker. I went through therapy several times with no relief. I had an MRI, which indicated a slippage of L4 onto L5, stenosis & other issues. The 1st Neurosurgeon I seen, told me he couldn't help me. I felt defeated. Six months later, while at my Orthopedic visit, for knee injections, the Dr. told me I needed a 2nd opinion. This lead me to Dr. Marsh. On our 1st visit, he explained in great detail, what he could do to help me. He was direct and to the point, which I like. Fusion surgery was scheduled. Before surgery, he spoke to me, telling me what was going to occur in detail, and we also exchanged some banter, which was awesome. Within 1 hr post OP, I wanted to walk. There are no words to describe my elation, as I took those 1st steps, with no sciatica pain.

Dehumanizing experience
Have hydrocephalus and been shunted since 5 wks old. Saw marsh due to sudden onset of pain that have left me a shell of a person for 2 years; rudely explained that I have hydrocephalus and not some other longwinded issue that I’ve never heard of and never claimed to have as if I’d been going around lying to people or misunderstanding my condition, would barely let me speak and kept cutting me off(had to ask him to let me finish several times), told me to calm down several times while I was simply crying, told me I am not the only one in the world with chronic pain and I need to understand that, that my brain was tricking me into believing that my symptoms are shunt related(this is something I’ve never claimed and didn’t consider until my first neurosurgery appointment), and told me to talk to a therapist and try antidepressants. I haven’t never felt more dehumanized by a doctor and I am completely shaken from this appointment. I could deal with the results if they’d been said kinder.

Currently seeing marsh for lumbar injury, been 2 claims same area opposite sides of symptoms for 1 year and half. 3 times since appointment I've flared back into squalling on every step, not being able to fully stand up, constant back pain. Called to inform of condition and still have not heard from HIM. He ordered work hardning at 40 hrs a week and 1 and half hour drive and 3rd epidural of which 1st two did not work. All this after telling me he could do a fusion..... I'll take the fusion dr marsh, I'm 31 year old male with 3 little boys 11 and below. I would love to be able to participate in the raising of my kids but him and comp are tooworried about forcing someone back to work. I feel unlistened to, ignored, in pain, and looked down on. I want my career as an EMT saved by this guy and I'm getting the feeling it's not gonna happen. Depression is real.

I had been suffering with sudden onset, crippling nerve pain for almost 3 months. My first visit with Dr. Marsh he suggested I have a spinal injection. I refused.. My second visit, after an MRI, he showed me exactly where my nerve was being pinched off. I was sobbing in pain. I literally couldn't walk. Dr. Marsh said not only did i need surgery, but an L4-L5 fusion. This was right at the worst of the covid 19 pandemic. All non emergency surgeries cancelled. Somehow Dr. MARSH got me in just a few days later. I am currently 2 months out of surgery, And I could not be happier with the results. I have absolutely no nerve pain and no back ache at all. He did exactly what he was going to do and explained to me exactly what the outcome would be. And he was 100% correct. I was almost unable to walk before this surgery... And today I walked in-and-out of his office with absolutely no pain, just 8 weeks after he did the fusion. I highly recommend him!!!!

Very dismissive. Obvious that he had not reviewed my case history. Great hospital with a poor doctor. Neurosurgery Department has fallen apart following the departure of Dr. Bailes.

This a Dr who TRULY believes he's the most talented person. He truly doesn't think about the patient's condition!! He performed a surgery & what he put in DIDN'T WORK & I wanted it removed. I told my neurologist ( WITH HIM STANDING CROSSED ARMS) he sternly looked at me and responding; DO WANT TO BE SEIZURE FREE OR ABLE TO SING? Itold him i wanted it removed from me because the VNS unit forced more seizures because stress FROM that unit. Avoid him!

I saw Dr. Marsh for bad back pain. He told me it was normal degeneration of a back for a 47 year old and I had to live with it. He was rude and condescending. Treated me like I was wasting his time. I had seen a spine specialist in Virginia and found that I have bulging disks and pinched nerves. Dr. Marsh is awful.

Dr. Marsh seems to have an interest in the brain. All his written articles have been on the brain. When I saw him for issues for my back he didn’t listen about where my pain was and told me it was from a different kind of movement which was never an issue for me. He also told me to stop going to PT and go to the gym. I have a genetic condition that slowly damages the joints so I can’t go to the gym. He just doesn’t listen!
