Highly Dismissive
I had an ablation for supra-ventricular tachycardia (SVT) several years ago. At my follow up visit, Dr. Phang asked how I was feeling. I responded that I felt weak, tired, and sweaty. He replied it had been hot out and I was carrying too much weight. When I mentioned I was experiencing shortness of breath and exercise intolerance, he responded that excess weight had more to do with what I put in my mouth than an inability to exercise and suggested I see a personal trainer. I was a varsity athlete in high school and had worked as a registered nurse on a busy medical surgical unit for many years. After my ablation, I was subsequently diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) by another cardiologist and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. I was exhibiting classic symptoms of these conditions; tachycardia, weakness, fatigue, and weight gain. The abnormal lab results he received even suggested I had a thyroid problem. Dr. Phang dismissively fat shamed me instead of listening!

Every yearly visit became more and more rushed. Dr. Phang became more and more dismissive of anything I asked. Very arrogant. I finally decided enough was enough, and went elsewhere where I was treated with compassion and understanding, and could ask all the questions I wanted. I preceded with ablation, and am doing great!! Do yourself a favor, make the trip to NYC,and get a second opinion. Much better technology there, as well as more experienced and competent doctors.

Met Dr. Phang in Jan. 2017. I had a pulmonary embolism. Checkups went well. On 8 Feb.2020 I did not feel well. Went to the ER. The doctor was contacted and it an overnight stay for observation was recommended. Full workup and monitoring. When I saw the doctor he advised my heart rate had dropped to a low point in the mid 30's. Pros and Cons of a pacemaker were discussed and thanks to Dr. Phang's excellent medical knowledge and care, along with the staff at St. Peter's Hospital, I'm still enjoying life and family. 5 stars are not enough to express my gratitude.
