Great - back for all 3 kids.
Dr. Vansurksum & his staff are very professional, polite and competent. A few years ago, our oldest needed her wisdom teeth out - at that time we decided to go to him. That was our 1st time in his office (Sartell at the time.) When it came time for our 2nd child to have her wisdom teeth out, it was a no brainer where to go (also Sartell office.) Recently our youngest needed the same surgery. It was well worth the drive to the cities to go to his new office. Totally recommend!

Dr. Van is great. Office manager is terrible.
Dr. Van is great. His assistants are great, super friendly. His office manager is terrible. She's rude. Unprofessional. Takes no accountability for her actions or behavior. She doesn't know how to resolve conflict. She actually just creates more conflict. She makes it escalate further. She thinks she can get away with her behavior and talking however she wishes to patients because she controls who speaks to Dr. Van, her superior. She will just sever the patient relationship because 'their office doesn't need this kind of relationship'. She creates the bad relationship!!! My experience with everyone else was perfectly pleasant and positive. Dr. Van and I chatted about my kiddos at my last visit with him. We had a great conversation. At my extraction I had a great conversation with his assistant. Carol poorly represents this business. She has no business managing this office and interacting with patients. You will end up losing business just like you lost mine. But to Carol, you don't m

Would not recommend
We brought our daughter in to see Dr. Vansurksum for wisdom teeth removal. When we started to ask him questions, he saw our notepad and said “you don’t need that”. He then told us that all the information we would need will be in fact sheet and they would send it home with us. But the sheet was only half a page long, and did not include all of the information they gave us, and we still had many unanswered questions. About 3 weeks after our daughter’s wisdom teeth surgery, she developed an infection in one of the incision sites. We brought her back and Dr. Vansurksum told her it was her fault that she got the infection. When he went to drain the incision site, he did not use Novocain and our daughter was in extreme pain. He again told her that it was her fault because she didn’t brush well enough and didn’t irrigate the site well enough. He repeatedly shamed our daughter. When we asked him questions, he became argumentative and defensive. We would not recommend him to anyone.

A bad experience :(
After I got my wisdom teeth removed, I got an infection. I believe this is due to a lack of instructions, and after care information. However after returning to treat the infection, I felt very belittled, and I felt like Dr. Vansurksum was scolding and me for my infection. He blamed me and shamed me, telling me it was my own fault that I got an infection. There was no sympathy whatsoever. I cried and felt very alone and scared. Furthermore, when he drained the infection, it was extremely painful. I didn’t get any numbing agent or warning about the pain. I felt very confused about what was going on, and when I asked about the procedures/steps, I was given a sarcastic remark with no answers. If you get anxious about medical related things, please do not visit this doctor. You will leave feeling horrible.

Very happy with my first consultation and outcome
My experience with Dr. VanSurksum was awesome. I really hate going to the dentist (at 80 years of age) as I've had issues with chronic pain most of my adult life. The entire staff and the doctor were all so engaging, patient, informative & friendly---- I felt I could trust them with the work that needed to be done that I've been avoiding for 2 years. I'm not looking forward to surgery tomorrow but I trust Dr. VanSurksum completely and feel that I've made the best decision in years for a necessary extraction and two implants. I'll leave another review after the procedure.

Cannot Recommend
I wish I had read the reviews. I would have been warned about his lecturing. As others have noted, the staff are great, extremely gracious & accommodating. To add to other reviews, I have high Blood Pressure which worsens whenever I have dental procedures. It's a known fact that BP increases a lot among those facing dental work. Unfortunately, Dr. VanS didn't focus on helping calm my anxiety but made it worse with lecturing & criticizing me. I could literally feel the anxiety & subsequent BP climb. Imo, it wasn’t the time or place for lectures. His focus on scolding did everything BUT alleviate the BP or anxiety. Unfortunately, this could have been a better experience had he focused on calming my outrageous anxiety which would have also aided in helping the BP. Suffice to say, I cannot recommend it for anyone who feels moderate-high anxiety in such circumstances. It was a traumatizing experience and took time to emotionally recover.

My wife had wisdom teeth removed by this guy, the staff was great, he was awful. If you have any anxiety over dental work, DO NOT see this guy. If you use this guy, I hope you do not have any complications because he will not give you his time, basically blame you, toss an antibiotic Rx at you, kick you out, and tell you to goto the emergency room if there are problems.

I had oral surgery with him recently, and I was a little worried with some of the negative reviews, but I didn’t let them get to me. My personal experience with him was great! I’m glad that I could have someone like him take out my wisdom teeth. Very friendly, outgoing, and pleasant.

I had to have a dead tooth removed followed by a temporary followed by a permanent. Dr Vansurksum (and his staff) was excellent in both his explanation as well as his care. Highly recommend.

The staff are wonderful and caring. I have severe anxiety over the dentist and had a major, life changing procedure. Dr VanSurksum, was degrading and belittling. The first thing he said was mention the procedure and say "you are going to hate them" proceeded to lecture me about my blood pressure, which was escalated due to anxiety, and he made it far worse by arguing with me and trying to give me a medical diagnosis!

I've had dental work done twice (two extractions) with Dr. Van and he's been wonderful to work with both times! I absolutely hate anything to do with dental work and dental offices in general, but he makes it as comfortable as possible. He is very engaging, and watches patient body language for signals of pain or discomfort, so he can make sure he's doing procedures as pain-free as possible. Would recommend him to anyone needing oral surgery / extractions.
