Dr. Ruth Gettes, MD

She pushes pills, talks about herself, her time at Chapel Hill, her kids, and her Neuro issues. I was over medicated. I should have left sooner. It's all about her.

She's gentle, little informal, but complete in her time.

Highly uneducated in the terms of "people”. I did my very best to open up to this doctor; unfortunately, the two of us did not seem to have the same goal in mind. The goal that I was aiming towards was to be able to share a professional relationship and be enlightened by her on how to steer my emotions in a more proper and productive manner. She makes diagnoses off of questionnaires and pushes narcotics like candy. See her if you want to be labeled by a piece of paper of elementary grade level.

Her personal problems interfered with her ability to treat my situation objectively' After several years it became apparent that her abilities were overstated and her knowledge of correct medications were just wrong. I sought help after her which only confirmed my analysis. I would suggest future patients do their homework before investing in a problematic relationship

Having seen her for several years, it becomes apparent that she is emotionally handicapped and leads to adverse diagnostic and therapeutic results. Many sessions led to her interjecting her own problems. I went through several periods where her pharmacology knowledge was challenging

I've gone to Dr. Gettes through a few different time periods over approx. 20 yrs, beginning when I was in my early 30s. I've gone back during each time of need because she's the best in her field: brilliant and straight-forward, warm and professional, honest and caring. It's extremely rare to find a psychiatric doctor who also does therapy/counseling. Even more rare is one who invests as much in her clients as they do in her.

I've seen Dr Gettes for 8 years now and she's great. She is pragmatic, compassionate, and genuinely cares about her patients well being. She is also very good with medication management.
