Dr. Nerland became our family doctor when we moved here. He treated my wife for her chronic pain caused by sacralization of her L5, herniated discs and fibromyalgia. He did this with an opioid which she had been taking for many years. On day he decided to stop prescribing this class of medication to anyone ever again. He did not taper her off or give her time to find an alternative physician. He ignored the advice of his staff and ignored my pleas for him to help her until an appointment was available with a pain specialist. I had to watch her suffer in bed unable to do daily tasks or care for our daughter because of the pain. You should NEVER abruptly stop opioid medications like this. But he sure did it anyway. He showed no sympathy or care. He should be ashamed of himself.

Mistreated
I moved down here from wi. I had previously been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I didn’t know any better so I went to the Jackson clinic seeking help for my pain and fmla. Went to the north clinic, first female dr basically told me she will not help me, so I made an apt with another dr that also told me he can’t help me. So I get to Dr. Nerland hoping for some help. One of the first things he said to me as a patient was “I heard through the grapevine you’re a shopper.” He told me if he can diagnose me he will write me fmla. I needed It so I wouldn’t loose my job. He strung me along for 1.5 years, only testing blood work and trying every anti inflammatory under the sun. He wouldn’t refer and wouldn’t order no scams, MRIs or X-rays. I got too frustrated sick of the rabbit hole and went another direction.. I was diagnosed with MS two days ago.

Dr. Nerland and Primary Care: First Impressions
When my primary care physician, another clinician in the Jackson Clinic system, retired last year after I had been seeing him for 33 years (since I turned 50), I made the choice to transfer to Dr. Nerland because the Medina location was convenient and I wanted to stay in the Jackson Clinic network. Recently I saw him for my first annual wellness check. He seemed to be personable and knowledgable and took time to try to acquaint himself with my long history—including my connections to other specialists—and my current concerns. Within the predictable constraints, he took time to answer all my questions and to explain in detail the implications of my recent set of lab tests. In particular, I felt that I was talking on par with another person who respected me and wanted to do right by me as an aging mortal. It's early in our doctor/patient relationship, but right now I think I made a good choice. Dr. Nerland's nurse, Barbara, was especially helpful in arranging preliminary lab work.

Very thorough and knowledgeable. He doesn't rush visits, and assesses the cause of medical issues rather than just treating the symptoms. His nurse Ms. Barbara is also fantastic.

We have transferred our youngest two children to Dr. Nerland. He is so good with my children and helps them to be at ease when going to the doctor. He’s great with making the parents feel comfortable and helping to explain things to the parent and on the child’s level of understanding. I highly recommend Dr. Nerland!
