Suffered shattered L1 vertebrae in industrial accident. Dr Smith did the reconstructive surgery. Literally owe him my life. Twenty plus years later still breathing (and walking) despite expectations. Surgery required innovative procedures to overcome extreme bleeding due to arterial damage. He is one of the good ones.

Helped me live again
This man took me from incapacitating pain to the ability to perform my duties as Hospital Security Manager for Boulder Community Hospital. I could do take downs as necessary and walk the entire day without pain. Back surgeries are a gamble for the surgeon and the patient and for those that expect miracles, then you should take it up with a pastor . ..

I had been to a several doctors about my lower back. As a 26 year old I was never taken seriously and when I was they were unsuccessful in getting surgical treatment approved with my insurance. My very first visit with Dr. Smith he took time to listen to me and discuss surgical options. He had me go home and my wife and I take time to decide and included her in the whole process. Surgery went great and his entire team is amazing. Especially his NP Katie. They all take time to listen and understand. I’m not treated like just a number. I cannot recommend Dr. Smith and his team enough. I’m still recovering but I finally feel like I will get back to normal life and be able to live like a 26 year old guy. If you need spine care go to Dr. Smith.

I would never and I never recommend him for anything because I was put through he'll for a month and half with delays and wasn't concern about my staph infection or my hardware breaking on me.i thought he was going to do surgery on me but I went to the er one time ,then he went crazy on me, and wasn't going to do the surgery plus he wouldn't let me come to my appointment so left me with the staph infection and my rods to break so I could never walk again ,I wouldn't trust him at all or his staff ,I would recommend to find a different dr because a dr took a promise not to harm and he is harming me by not doing the surgery as promise I don't know how he could live with that, I couldn't . He has two different personalities believe me I would run and get a different dr

Dr. Samuel Smith has a winning personality. In January of 2017 he told me that the only relief for my pain would be a L4/L5 spinal fusion. Dr. Smith preformed the fusion on April 1st. The first thing he said to me when I woke up was "I may have to go back in". I have left lower extremity nerve injury. I have foot drop, unrelenting leg pain & neuropathy. I'm unsure as to why he said he might need to go back in, because it's not possible to undo what was done. My quality of has been deminshed.

5 years after a successful 1st surgery, Dr Smith did a lumbar fusion on me and then spent 11 months telling me he didn't know why I had continued (and worsened) back pain. I sought a 2nd opinion and after a scan, found my fusion wasn't "solid" (despite Smith's insistence it was). During the new surgery with new dr, they found 4 loose screws (biggest source of pain) Don't give "Dr Redo" a 1st chance!
