Dr. Sandra Russell, DO

I went to Dr. Russell for the first time after I was experiencing some worrying symptoms. I showed up to my appointment feeling very nervous. After she asked some questions Dr. Russell said 3 things to me that I’ll never forget. After confirming I’ve never had an ultrasound for PCOS she said “it’s impossible to diagnose PCOS without an ultrasound so I’m not sure where you’re getting your info” I went through my symptoms that my doctor 10 years prior said indicated PCOS. High blood sugar, irregular period, hirsutism, to that she said “yeah I can see your facial hair from here” and then she said “well you’re clearly not going to let me examine you, so I can’t really do anything but it’s probably cancer”. I left the office in total shock and just sobbing. I made an appointment with UofM in Ann Arbor, who laughed and said yeah, she’s wrong. You do have PCOS and your symptoms are from a hormone imbalance, definitely not cancer at 28. They put me on BC and my symptoms disappeared.

It’s been a long time since Dr. Russell was my physician but, for the few years that she was, I thought she was great. I was surprised to see these negative reviews about her. She was kind and caring whenever I met with her. I wouldn’t hesitate to have her as my doctor again.

Dr Russell delivered my child 17 years ago. By the looks of these more recent reviews, her bedside manner has not improved. I will never forget how uncaring she was. Needless to say, she did not deliver my second child.

Dr. Russell was incredibly rude. I was talked over my entire visit, struggled to get in any vital information about my own health, and rather than discussing the medication she was prescribing me, she spent a majority of the time telling us what she thinks about conditions that are far from her area of expertise. Despite what four other doctors have confirmed, she talked over me, dismissing my pain and forming her own illogical opinions. To elaborate on 'illogical'; A lot of the things she said were baseless. She talked in circles, and the moment I got out of that appointment and wasn't being talked at, I was able to disprove them in minutes. Regarding the medication: it was hardly informed consent. The medication and side effects were barely brushed over and I wasn't given time to discuss it or ask her any questions before she left. We never even discussed my needs and wants as her patient. I highly recommend seeing another practice and a more competent and caring doctor.

Dr Russell delivered my daughter almost 21 years ago and I have nothing but great things to say about her. She has always answered all my questions and asked if I had any more. I will always recommend and go to her for all my female medical needs.

I would advise against seeing this doctor. She was very rude- like, shockingly rude. Tried to explain my symptoms but she didn't listen or care at all. I was never called with test results then the office staff treated my like I was an idiot for calling for the results, they said "Did someone forget to ask for results?" No, I was told I'd be called with results. After my appointment, I spoke to several other women who had the same complaints. I wish I would've known before. Left in tears.

I have been a patient of Dr. Russell's for years. She's delivered 2 of my boys and I've worked with her in the operating room during both vaginal and cesarean deliveries. She isn't the most talkative but she isn't rude. But she is by far one of the best surgeons we have around here. She cares deeply about her patients and provides excellent care.

I have had nothing but good experience with her. She always asked me if i had any questions and most of the time i did not but when i did she explained things clearly. Most importently she preformed my C-section and made sure to stop by twice in my room before i was discharged.

Rudest and most uncaring doctor I have ever met. No idea why people like her pursue medicine.

I am 66 years old and on Medicare and Blue Cross. I went for my annual exam and I was told that I didn't qualify for a pap smear. I called Blue Cross and was told I qualified for a pap every year. I made an appointment with Dr. Russell and she did a pap smear (I thought but she really did a pelvic exam). I waited for my test results and was told she never took a culture. She never told me this and lead me to believe that she had done a pap smear. Now she refuses to see me as a patient.

Dr. Russell is very nice and quick and efficient with her services. All of the staff are polite in person and over the phone. Even when I came in for a procedure I was scared about, she made sure it was quick, easy, and painless.
