Terrible experience
I had a terrible experience in this office. I arrived a few minutes early for my appointment and had to wait nearly 20 minutes beyond my scheduled time to get in. I was given a gown that was several sizes too small which made things very uncomfortable from the start. The doctor took one look at me and said I was too tan. Barely examined my skin and told me to sit in the shade and be fully covered at all time. Did not ask me about my activities - paddling - or how I currently protect my skin - sun screen and rash guards. She then gave me a prescription for cream to treat my chapped lips. When I got to the pharmacy their was an issue because she had ordered two large tubes of this ointment - more than I could possibly use in a year if I applied it multiple times a day. It was all very confusing and frustrating.

They don’t answer their phone. I tried for two days to contact them concerning an appointment that was already scheduled. When I arrived at the office for my appointment I was checked in, taken to the exam room and left for over 30 minutes. Nobody talked to me or came in to explain the delay, I never did see the MD. I opened the door to leave and two nurses asked if I was ready to check out. They had no clue that I hadn’t seen the MD. After losing confidence in the whole process I left and went home. The office was hot and the care wasn’t there. I drove to Hawaii Kai from Kaneohe and arrived 15 minutes early, (I am a long term patient of this MD.

No she is Horrible, I would not recommend her to anyone unless you would like to be a drug testing specimen. All sorts of pain meds will be forced on you with out your approval. The nurse spends more time with the patient before and after the Dr. Howell meets with the patients. Dr. Howell assumtion, guess work, experimenting various types of drugs will reduce a patients skin infection is ludicrous! If she Don't have an honest answer to a person's skin disease she should honestly say so. And not keep insisting a patient should try a different drug with no proof of any success rate. A concerned former patient.

Took my son to see Dr. Howell for mole check and removal. She was friendly and professional. Her assistant Phebe was also very pleasant. Her "nurse" came in & did not even introduce herself. She gave my son no warning that she was going to inject lidocaine in the back of his head and spots on his back. Then she made comments that he was not being "tough enough". I did not care for her approach. I will not be returning to Dr. Howell for this purpose.

She did a very thorough examination and detected a patch of skin cancer that 90% of dermatologists would not have noticed. Our friend recently went to a different dermatologist who did not bother to look under her clothes, and waved her off as being fine. Dr Howell found this patch by taking the time energy and effort to feel the skin. There was no mole or discoloration. If you live in Hawaii, you must all do yourself the duty to have yourself checked by an expert who actually cares.
