Veterans Beware
horrible experience, the VA sent me in for a breath test, the Dr. have me a box and told me to do it at home. I never received the test results because his office never paid the sub contractor. He billed the wrong insurance and I am still receiving bills (wish I could give him negative stars).

Disrespectful & doesn't care at all.
Started trying to set up an appt at the beginning of Dec. 2022, explained the serious nature of my request as well as the fact that another surgeon was waiting to perform a badly need surgery based on Dr Lewey's assessment of my upper stomach. the earliest Lewey could get me in was Jan Weds 11th, I get a call one day before my appt. on Jan10th cancelling the appt. saying he could now not see me until Feb. 11th! Further more, Lewey refused to see me in person, only a virtual visit. I explained that I had very serios stomach distention and rigidity that not only I thought was significant but so did my Lower GI surgeon, Hence him sending me to Lewey before he operates. This didn't matter, Virtual visit only. My PCP agreed that my concern over this was justified. Find someone else. I finally got a referral from my brother and some of his colleagues who are research Dr's at Johnson and Johnson specializing in GI work. They all recommended Dr. Madrid at Rocky Mnt. Gastroenterology.

Dr Lewey did an endoscopic procedure on me at Porter Hospital earlier this week. I am totally pleased with his knowledge, professional expertise, and I had no discomfort afterwards.I was provided with a detailed report of his findings and his recommendations. A lot of the language needs explanation by my oncologist, but I expect to get this in time. Clearly a very busy surgeon (think he did a half dozen procedures that day) but Dr Lewey took the time to answer the questions I thought of patiently and in language I could better understand. I couldn't ask for more than this.

Showed up to my appointment on time (1 hour before my procedure as recommended), and was not able to be seen by the doctors to have my procedure done. Waited more than two hours after my scheduled appointment time and hospital staff still could not tell me how much longer I was going to need to wait to see the doctor. Since at that point I had not eaten for 36 hours and had not been able to drink anything for almost 8 hours, I just could not wait any longer and left the hospital without having the procedure done. Unfortunately I spent a lot of time and money preparing for the procedure, only to get nothing accomplished. Was never given and explanation or apology. Very unprofessional treatment of patients. I would avoid coming to Porter Adventist if at all possible.

Bad experience, doctor not trustworthy, tried to do an unnecessary procedure, tried to give medication when an allergy was present, even though the allergy was documented. Don’t go to this provider.

Stay away from here. Family member needed an upper endoscopy and he insisted on doing it under general anesthesia, even though she had an allergy to propofol, he still insisted on that. I said no because that could cause problem with her allergy and he said we had to sign the anesthesia liability release form to release him and the anesthesiologist from any liability or he wouldn’t do it. Terrible doctor, terrible bedside manner, outdated on medical protocols, and working in the medical field myself, I know general anesthesia is not standard, conscious sedation is. Stay away from this doc. I even complained to the practice manager and was told that they get a lot of complaints about him like this and all they could do is apologize. I demanded a refund and went to another doc where they did do her upper endoscopy with conscious sedation and didn’t even suggest GA. They said GA was absurd and don’t even know why he would do that because that’s terrible patient care.

Dr. Lewey was very detailed and informative. I had many questions and he took the time to address each one. He also suggested a generic brand which saved me quite a bit.

First colonoscopy at previous location was fine except for nurse infiltrated IV. Second colonoscopy in 2015 was completely unprofessional. No patient privacy in pre-op area. After being wheeled into procedure area Dr Lewey didn't even acknowledge or greet me. Didn't ask if I was having any symptoms. Without any verbal warning he proceeded to digitally insert the lubricant before the procedure. After only being conscious for a couple of minutes after the procedure they rushed me to get dressed.
