Dr. Scott Smukalla, MD

Dr. Smukalla is friendly enough but comes across a bit smug and dismissive to put it bluntly. Not a collaborative or particularly empathetic physician. He did not seem interested in getting to the root cause of my issues or trying to solve them non-pharmacologically. Just wanted to prescribe medication and check only the most basic of tests off the list. No further follow-up options were presented when test results were normal despite my persistent and severe symptoms. I was hopeful this would finally be the GI doc to actually help me and put the puzzle pieces together where other doctors who came less recommended failed to do so. But seeing him was mainly another waste of time, energy, and money. I’m sure he is great for basic issues and screenings and he and his staff are very responsive via mychart, but beyond that he just did not seem up to or interested in the task. You can easily find this level of GI specialist without waiting 6 months for an appt and forking over $$$ to NYU.

Dr. Smukalla performed both Endoscopy and the Colonoscopy at the same time on me. Everything was done very smoothly, efficiently, and at a very high professional level. His team members, nurses, including Mr. Charles at the registration were great. I especially liked the Doctor's bed side manner, patience, and the amount of time and the level of comfort given to me, before and after the procedure.

He's been great. He is smart & kind, and considering my family history, appropriately conservative with my care.

I've had several procedures and other appointments with Dr. Scott Smukalla. He is very good at what he does, and is a pleasant, caring man. I recommend him without reservation.

My husband and I both see him for colonoscopy. When a different issue came up, he saw me right away and took care of it which was very appreciated.

This is the worst possible doctor - he has poor bedside manners, he is full of himself, he does not listen to the patient and does not care. He is young and arrogant. Has had flat affect and does not maintain eye contact when talking to the patients. He does not respond to messages, and when he is forced to do so, he talks in a condescending manner. He is a nightmare of a doctor!

Waited 4 months for an appointment. His office cancelled last minute without cause and then told me I had to reschedule and wait an additional three months. Doctor clearly doesn’t care about patients or have any customer service in his office. Do not recommend.

Avoid this doctor at all costs. He does not know what she is doing. He does not talk to patients and he does not listen. He is very full of himself and pompous, but lacks substance.

Awful. Does not listen to patients. I am a gay male and thought he would be nice to his own kind. He doesn’t look at you during the appointment, he doesn’t even make eye contact. He sits there taking notes but then does not hear what you say. Left me with a condition untreated, had to find help elsewhere.

I waited two months for an appointment but he offered some new tests for my problem which made me happy.

He was young but that didn't bother me I liked him and I would reccommend him.

GREAT DOC! My wife saw him and I liked him so much I asked him to see me and he did that same day. Very nice and accommodating.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!! Ifinally feel like I have an explanation for my symptoms.
