Very likely
New to the state, sought a local cardiologist for continuity of care. Pre-admission intake was thorough, pleasant and set the tone for the rest of the visit.Barely had time to sit down and take out a book before I saw the MA and went thru BP, pre-doc questions. My MA was thorough, knowledgeable and very friendly, again set the tone for the visit with Dr. Mazer. She went and retrieved my out-of-state medical records so he had a frame of reference for my visit. He reviewed the records in front of me so I felt he was asking questions that were specific to my personal health not just random patient questions. As a recently retired RN I know from personal experience many patients question if medical personnel know anything about them PERSONALLY, and why they even ask for medical records if they don't review them, so this is an important point in allowing the patient to feeling HEARD.I am very happy with Dr. Mazer and look forward to my next visit in 6 months.

Former patient.
Dr. Mazer is an extremely qualified electrophysiologist. He performed my ablation procedure and eliminated a decade long struggle with atrial fibrillation. However he has a poor patient manner, and postponed appointments numerous times. Several months after the procedure, Dr. Mazer terminated me as a patient. I had to seek out another cardiologist.

My experience initially was good. He inspired confidence when I met with him. However, I was very frustrated in getting him to do a follow up which he ordered at the initial appt. His office called and offered an app. months down the road. I am a new patient and felt that he dropped the ball on me and did not offer good patient care.

saw Dr. Mazer because I thought I had A-Fib in reaction to a drug I was given for Rheumatoid Arthritis. I thing I sincerely appreciated is how totally thorough he was. l was given the most thorough evaluation a person could ask for. He considered my diet, the drugs I was taking (very few) and he encouraged me to loose weight, do more weight bearing exercise and sent me to a pulmonologist to get some feed back on my breathing. I also did a stress. At 69, it was past the time for some of these tests. I loved his sense of humor and his no-nonsense approach. I frankly wouldnt see anyone else. My husband has an appt and that really gives me a sense of security that he will be seeing a genuine EXPERT.

Dr. Mazer's office has called me twice in 4 months to postpone my appointments as much as 2 and a half months. Each time, they called less than 3 weeks prior to my appointment, only offering a new appointment more than 2 months out. The first time I accepted the later appointment. But now I have to make other arrangements to see another doc because I can't wait another 2.5 months - AGAIN. I'm new to New Mexico and need to see a cardiologist at least once every 6 months - minimum. I have hypertension and am also prone to atrial fibrillation. I have to see a cardiologist regularly to manage these conditions and be administered an EKG to ensure my meds are not having an adverse effect. I have now been in New Mexico for over 7 months and have still not seen a cardiologist because of Dr. Mazer's inability to properly schedule patients and honor commitments.

The doctor's tech (not a PA) made me feel like I was a piece of machinery: very hurried and impersonal. Then it took over 40 minutes to see the doctor. He was thorough and gave me information about my condition I had never heard before . I can't get an appt. with him again for 6 months but will see his PA after some more tests. Can't say if I recommend him yet or not. So far, I'm not thrilled with the Heart Institute in general.
