A New Person!
I had DBS surgery this past spring. My neurologist in Colorado Springs and equipment techs were having a difficult time getting my settings 'dialed in' and my tremor was worse than before surgery. They all decided 'another set of eyes might be helpful. ' My technicians arranged for me to see Dr. Kareus at one of his outreach clinics. On Nov. 19, he spent about 30 min with me. I am a new person! I had a follow-up appt in December. Dr. Kareus is a Movement disorder-trained neurologist and is very knowledgeable as he does adjustments on all three brands of DBS equipment. He has a casual manner and a fun sense of humor. Thank you, Dr. Kareus, for giving me my life back!

He should be reported
I saw Dr. Kareus because he specialized in DBS surgery that helps Parkinson patients get rid of their tremors. I gave him my 1,000+ pages of medical records regarding my heart failure and strokes yet told me to my face there was no reason to think I had resulting brain damage that would cause my tremors and movement issues and that it was all due to anxiety... I angrily took his word for it, it took ONE cat scan to show hypodensities in my Basal Ganglia (part of brain that controls movement and coordination) as a result of anoxic brain injury and ichemic stroke in my cerebellum...

Best there is
Dr.Kareus took time and research to get me a correct diagnosis back in 2017. I have a rare disease autoimmune Limbic Encephatiltis, and without his expertise, I most likely would've been misdiagnosed and sent to a psych ward. As far as I'm concerned he saved my life. I still have memory and other issues, but I can function. He is caring, concerned, and dedicated to his work.

He has a closed mind and zero concern
I had been referred for unexplained pain or maybe Wilson's disease. The physician told me in an unpleasant way that this was not possible. I cannot see a use for him unless maybe for an obvious disease that requires no thought on his part. The reason is, though I had never seen a neurologist before for some severe pain and other undiagnosed problems, he said: "If you've seen all these other doctors in the past and they don't know what is wrong with you, I'm sure we won't be able to figure anything out" . In other words, he cannot dx a patient with something not obvious, or so he says in his own words. Also, even after telling me my mri was clean of my head, he wanted me to come in and discuss it. Meaning, he wanted another $400 to say, "your mri is clean".

GETS PAID TO TELL ME WHAT THE RADIOLOGIST SAID ...
Has never given me a physical to see how my disease is progressing. Just tells me to get an MRI and charges me $400.00 twice a year. Doesn't offer any advice or treatment for my symptoms. I am just a number to make $.

I was very happy with Dr. Kareus. I had some bothersome issues with my right arm and was concerned about the cause. He put my mind to rest in a short time and I left feeling much better.

Great! Dr. Kareus listens well and asks questions until he knows my concerns. He doesn't force decisions but clearly lets me know what he thinks. He doesn't waste time, but doesnn't rush me.

This doctor is great for a consult, and may have other, better honed skillsets and areas of proficiency, but he has treated my husband entirely too conservatively, and hasn’t shown us much of his knowledge and abilities.
