She's brilliant
I went for a routine check up at NYU Langone and was awed by her intelligence, how much information she carries at once, and how succinctly she is able to communicate it. I felt like she'd really examined the tests and shared everything generously. She's efficient, succinct, and excellent.

So thorough and very kind
I don't understand the complaints here. She goes through so many stats with you and clarifies things for you if you have issues. I had so many worries on my mind and she'll go into the specifics . It's so hard to book an appointment with her since you need to book months in advance, but when i've had issues, I would just call and get an appointment sooner. She's truly the best and couldn't have asked for a better obgyn

Not the type of doctor I would prefer
I have been seeing Dr. McDaniel for 3 years since my return to NY and continued going to her with hopes that I might be over thinking my initial reception of her. This past appointment solidified that she is not the doctor for me. I often feel rushed during appts, as if I'm speaking to a robot/automated system and she doesn't seem to showcase any genuine care. When I bring up areas of concerns, they are brushed off as normal without regards to history/context. My last exam came back abnormal and I was given 'a spiel' (her words) of statistics and told to wait another year to test and see if that comes back the same, then we can proceed with next steps. You can barely ask questions because she seems to be going off of a script and in regards to my health, what may be normal to her, could be new to me and I'd appreciate any consideration with that regard. Additionally, I never want to hear a doctor say 'I'm going to give you the spiel' when it pertains to my abnormal results.

Rude and dismissive behavior
Telehealth
So I try to give some people grace, but mcdaniels behavior is horrible. I have asked for test to be run because my cycle has been extremely long. She agreed and told me to book appointments and I did. She asked me to do a sono and of course they didn’t have the right available time (time sensitive) and no one told me there were different places I could call to make another appointment, until now a whole 3 weeks later! Knowing that it needed to be done within a certain time bracket. I saw her on the 18th of Dec and when I saw her again on the 2nd of January she had no idea who I was or what I was there for! I had to remind her of the charts that where right in her face and while I had my results from the sono and wanted to ask her about it, her response was “no” you gotta book another appointment for that…to talk about my results that were in her face.so I did a week later! Now I made a virtual visit on Jan 10th and she had no idea why I was there, rushed the whole appointment.

Great doctor!
I really enjoyed seeing Dr. McDaniel! I'm extremely picky when it comes to practitioners and especially sensitive with OBGYN matters. The exam was quick, no nonsense, and comprehensive. The Dr. definitely uses dry humor as part of her bedside manner, which I happen to really enjoy as it puts me at ease.

Arrogant and Apathetic Human Being
Dr. McDaniels is the worst doctor I have ever met. Terrible condescending bedside manner. She did not make me feel safe with her as a GYN or doctor in general. Using phrases like “ if God didn’t come down himself & remove it it’s still there” when I asked a question and telling me I have to trust doctors because I “have no choice”. I’m currently dealing with a difficult situation, which she was completely dismissive to and made a mockery of it, tell me it’s funny I have to have another surgery with a huge smile on her face. As if all this wasn’t enough, she rushed me out of the room telling me other patients were waiting for her. I wish I was exaggerating this. I will never go back to see that doctor, and I hope she deals with whatever is going on with her and heals. Such an ugly person on the inside.

Terrible experience.
I went to Dr. McDaniel for a simple annual gyn visit and exam and booked a morning appointment to avoid interrupting my work day. The wait was over an hour and I could ignore that, if it wasn’t for her horrible bedside manner. She was brusk, condescending and the exam was uncomfortable because she rushed. She didn’t allow me to ask questions because “that would be a separate consult.” By the way, I’m a physician myself so it’s easy for me judge what’s appropriate and what’s not. I would also never prevent a patient from asking me a question- that is inefficient, bad medicine and just unkind.

Worst experience ever
I almost never leave reviews (especially the negative ones) but I feel like this time I just have to. I rarely cry but Dr. McDaniel managed to make me cry right in front of her — this doctor has absolutely no compassion or patience. Dr. McDaniel is very arrogant and doesn’t seem to care about her patients. The worst experience I’ve had in years — do not recommend, it’s not worth the wait or the money.

I really wanted to see a black female doctor so I gave her a chance. I was so put off by the office policies like many others that I never made it to her. You have to leave a credit card on file which I had never done with a GYN and then formally write out that you will pay whatever the lab fees are no matter what the cost. Then she triple booked me. The level of unprofessionalism in that office is worse than anything I could ever describe to you. I left after the first waiting room because I felt so uncomfortable. Needless to say I was definitely not entrusting this doctor with any part of me. The vibe in that office is so unsettling believe me when I say listen to your gut and leave. Her name is not even in the directory and nobody was manning the security desk downstairs

I am looking for another gynecologist and I am really shocked to see some of these reviews. My insurance changed so I am no longer able to see Dr. McDaniel, but I absolutely LOVED her and never, ever had a problem with her answering my questions.

I would not recommend Dr. McDaniels to anyone! She lacks bedside manner, compassion, and kindness. Extremely cold for a doctor, especially a doctor in her field. I had some questions after some imaging results, tried to actually speak to her and was declined as she only communicates to patients through an email portal system. She had a very nasty condescending tone, using capital letters in some parts in the email as if I was annoying her, when I simply have questions pertaining to my health.

This doctor is extremely rude and does not care about her patients or their concerns. The first two times I went to her I received cold treatment from both the receptionists and Ms. McDaniel. I refuse to call her doctor because her behavior is not fitting to describe the way a doctor acts. All in all, she will spend about 5 mins in the room with you and her brain capacity is so small that she can only address ONE issue per visit. Regardless of this, I gave her the benefit of the doubt that maybe

The reviews do not lie. As my grandfather says "when somethings smells, it stinks through and through." This expression is completely appropriate when it comes to Dr. Shabarbara McDaniel. I booked an appointment through ZocDoc which was easy and probably the only reason why she's still in business. Her policy is to have a credit card of yours on file in case your insurance does not meet the deductible. Which I refused to give so they would not let me see the doctor until they could confirm this

My experience with Dr. McDaniel has been terrible. I waited an hour to be seen. I got my blood drawn & they collapsed my vein. I had to get a biopsy for a lump. Her office scheduled the appointment & provided me with the information (in writing, twice). The address they provided was incorrect- she had moved three years ago. I googled the surgeon &found another incorrect address. I finally arrived at the correct location an hour late only to discover they never sent my bloodwork over. Never again

Zero empathy. On Yelp she has a record of patients crying in exam rooms. She corrected me when I told her procedures have been painful, saying "no, that shouldn't hurt". She's often annoyed by questions, & if you interrupt her "script" to ask questions, get ready to be spoken to like a child.

I don't ever give reviews. Seriously. I just wanted to write one because I was/am so appalled by this doctor. Worst Doctor ever. Extremely painful biopsy. Horrible staff. The doctor is beyond rude. They overcharge. You WILL wait 2 hours before seeing her. Got a cervical biopsy. It was so painful and she let me bleed everywhere ( this is not supposed to happen)She scared me into thinking I had cancer when I didn't. JUST STAY AWAY!!!

I'm writing a review because I believe it's generally the best way to search for the right doctors/practices. In this particular practice, I strongly believe the cons profoundly outweighed the pros. The cons: lack of professionalism (i.e. staff), withholding patient's full credit card info, uncleanliness regarding restroom & ob/gyn exam room, and poor experience with uncertified technician- a teen who caused me to have a hematoma during a simple blood draw. Pro: friendly doctor
