Dr. Shakira Shanker, MD

Well staffed office. Immediately after checking in, exactIy on time, I was escorted to the exam room by a personable medical assistant who spent 20 minutes recording a complete history. Doctor Shanker was literally outside the door ready to come in when he was done. She spent a good amount of time listening to me and giving me feed back about my concerns as an assistant put all into the computer. I was given a script for an MRI that could be done close to home and an appointment to come back in for EEG upon my return from a planned vacation. Staff accommodated my desire for a mid day appointment to avoid rush hour traffic on the LIE. Dr. Shanker will be there during the tests. I was very relieved to feel she understood my issues and has a handle on the possible causes of my symptoms.

Terrible doctor she been called 4 times to call her patient back and never called . Never have I heard of doctor not calling patient back .She does not even deserve one star .

The most heartless woman I have ever encountered. After telling her that I have been suffering with a movement disorder for 25 years, untreated, she left to “make me an appointment with someone else” and was gone for 20 mins. I was clearly in distress, crying, ect. And no one did anything, i left the building because I started having a panic attack and they never called me about this “appointment” or followed up at all. This is after I waited 2 months for this appointment which was a mistake on the part of their receptionists who were undertrained- her words. I made an appointment with someone else and they called to tell me that this woman was actually the right person to help me. She does not deserve to be a doctor. Doctors at least act like they care.

I scheduled appointments and consequently extensive testing with Dr. Shanker due to a serious car accident. I chose her because of her high rating. Although she seems a very nice person, I was very disappointed with her care. I was scheduled for five tests. During one, the office called my cell to inform me that I had to reschedule my test because I was a no show. I had to explain that I was IN their back exam room. I had a cognitive test during which I was able to hear the doctor consulting another patient. I told the supervisor that I could not concentrate and was told that "distraction is part of the test", which turned out to be untruthful. With an EMG, Dr greeted me with " so why are they having you take this test?" I explained SHE had ordered the test. I sent a letter of complaint to Dr Shanker and to the office manager. The office manager apologized profusely, Dr Shanker never referred to nor addressed my concerns. I cannot recommend her in the least.
