Empathetic and Professional
Dr. Smitherman detailed my condition in professional, yet understandable, terms. Dr. Smitherman explained to me in detail my radiographic results and why I am experiencing the pain I have and potential fixes to address it. During the conversation I never felt rushed and all my questions were welcomed and addressed to my satisfaction. I appreciated her empathetic approach in treating me as a person and not a number and I feel fortunate to be a patient of hers.

Dr. Sheila Smitherman
Dr. Smitherman is just a wonderful person. She just made me feel comfortable. She’s great to talk to surgery was not an option for me, but she changed my mind.. she put me at ease with her smile the way she explained things and just her overall personality she made me feel like I could trust her. I can go on with rambling words, but what I will just say is that she’s the one.

Recent visit.
I was extremely pleased with my visit, the front office staff were very friendly and professional. Dr Smitherman was very informative, I really enjoyed my visit, I was kind of dreading the appointment but I was really happy with the whole experience.

Dr. Smitherman puts your well-being first
I first met Dr. Smitherman about 3 years ago regarding back pain. I'm very young for my back issues, so her concern with doing surgery on my back was that I hadn't been given conservative options first. She gave me a list of things I needed to try first before considering surgery and said it should be a last resort. I was happy to have a direction and followed the list she gave me. Unfortunately after trying those options, my back only got worse so I returned to see Dr. Smitherman. She was very patient in hearing my concerns and honest about what my options are. She even took a look at my neck which has also been an issue. When she recommended lumbar fusion I was terrified, but her expertise and confidence told me I was in good hands. I'm having my surgery soon! Her team is also great and has helped me work with insurance and other hangups leading toward surgery. I love this team!

Compassionate Professional
I was very nervous as it seemed most times my pain issues were ignored. Dr. Smitherman patiently waited as I gathered my emotions and listened to my concerns. We have a plan going forward and work for me to do. I highly recommend her.

98% positive this amazing human saved my life!
She was very professional, thorough and kind in the quality of the treatment plan she and her office generated for the biopsy and removal of a tumor of a very very rare condition in its type and location. I was scared and overwhelmed about needing brain surgery but Dr. smitherman was confident and reassuring the whole way. The surgery went with no complications or negative side effects, and its been nearly 18 months and there are no recurrences so far, she successfully surgically removed the tumor and all associated cancerous cellular activity with virtually no impact on who i am and what makes me the person i am, which is amazing to me. Im so grateful to have had her as my surgeon and anyone who is on the table in front of her is in the best hands they could be in without any question. this woman is an angel in a surgical smock. Thank you Sheila, 1000 thank yous , and don't ever change

Great Experience
This was follow up to my spinal fusion surgery which was 100% successful . Four months after surgery, I’m walking almost 4 miles a day and completely pain free after 12 years of on and off sciatica pain. It’s a pleasure to see and talk to Dr Smitherman.

Saved me
I'd spent weeks bouncing around doctors, trying to get my issue taken seriously as the pain and numbness spread. I was in absolute agony. Dr. Smitherman wasted no time in advocating for me to get an MRI for a proper, accurate diagnosis. I told her I didn't want surgery and she respected that. When the results came back, it was clear surgery was going to needed, and quickly. Dr. Smitherman still respected my initial reluctance and was patient with me as I wavered between my options. When I accepted the reality of my situation, Dr. Smitherman wasted no time in getting a surgery scheduled for the next day. No more talk of six weeks of waiting. I awoke after the surgery pain free, the first time I'd been pain free in years. Now, I'm healing well and ready for the journey to recovery. Everyone on the team in the surgical unit was an expert, and their competence and kindness put me at ease. Not only that, but everyone at the hospital told me how lucky I was to have Dr. Smitherman. I agree!

Not good. No surgery needed so I became unimportant to her. No f/u visits planned after the injury until weeks had gone by, shevinly wanted to see me if I had had an mri done ..I git ine but the injury was now 6 weeks old and was healing so I missed the window to get surgery so she poo poo'd me and ridiculed my concerns. Not a nice person if you don't need her services.

Dr. Smitherman was always honest with me and gave me good advice. She answered my questions and preformed a surgery that has helped me tremendously with my back issues. She is an excellent doctor and I will follow her to her next clinic since the office is being closed by Providence.

The reason I will not recommend this office is because you are closing it. I am very disappointed in this decision because I believe Dr. Smitherman is a fantastic doctor, and I am sorry she will not be able to continue being my doctor for my hemangioma.
