Dr. Carter was the surgeon who performed hip replacement surgery on both my hips, one 13 yrs ago and the other 10 yrs ago. His technique is cutting edge and both times I was back to a normal pain free mobile life within 3 wks Minimal scarring. He is awesome.

Surgeon Dr. Shelby Carter was a brilliant surgeon.
Why he let his good name associated with Joey Romero no clue. I'm in pain every day after Romero surgery. I went with Romero thinking he was Carter protégé.. I knew you were genius, and I trusted you. I'll be in pain for the rest of my life due to Romero.

Dr Shelby Carter.
Dr. Carter is an incredible surgeon! Dr. Carter has a wonderfully subtle since of humor. He is a kind, compassionate gentleman & He listens to his patients. I can not say enough positive points about my experiences as a patient of Dr. Carters both before, during and after my knee replacement...which I should have 5 years earlier (per his recommendation).

Dr. Carter has performed TKR’s on both of my knees. His surgical expertise and before/after protocol are the reason I was back on the tennis court in 6-8 weeks! Alex Victor, his PA, is the best! He closed my incision so expertly, my scars hardly show. CheryAnn, Dr. Carter’s scheduler, is a wonderful person with excellent communication skills! I know that Dr. Carter has hundreds of patients, yet she manages communications with ease. The nursing staff is great too. I just can’t say enough about Dr. Carter and his team and have recommended his team to many people. Yes, it is true that you will have to wait longer than you may want to get an appointment with Dr. Carter but you can be assured that he is WELL WORTH the wait! Thank you Team Carter!!

My husband had knee replacement surgery five weeks ago. He’s made incredible progress in a relatively short period of time. He was able to walk with a walker the day of his surgery and has made steady progress with physical therapy. Cheryl Ann Walker, Dr. Carter’s office coordinator, kept us informed of each step in the process and remained the “go to” person if we had any questions along the way. Dr. Shelby Carter and his team took every precaution to ensure a safe, functional outcome. Due to the pandemic and the wait list, my husband waited over a year for the surgery, but it was worth it! He is doing remarkable!

My entire experience having a hip replacement with the Carter Team was awesome. Everyone I dealt with, both in his office and in the hospital, couldn't have provided better care. Cheryl Ann, his scheduler, was always available to handle any small issue. My recovery was rapid and, most importantly, extremely successful.

Having suffered from terrible pain in a knee for years and having gone to 3 Austin orthopedic surgeons and 2 pain doctors whose surgical interventions/shots in the knee/painkillers did no good, I figured I might need a knee replacement and got an appointment with Dr. Carter - took several months to do so! He x-rayed and checked out my knee, said nothing was wrong. Then he performed a maneuver on my leg and said my hip was the issue. He took x-rays and said I needed a hip replacement. I ended up having to wait for well over a year (COVID didn't help!) for the surgery which I finally had 2 months ago. Haven't had any issues at all (knock on wood!), my mobility has increased drastically over what it was before and my knee doesn't hurt anymore. Thanks, Dr. Carter, it was worth the wait!

This man is phenomenal, the time he takes to prepare for each surgery is unbelievable. Dr Carter replaced both of my knees. The left knee was a huge challenge as I had a fused hip; which made getting the prosthesis in place correctly was difficult, but he did it. No infection and great recovery

Dr. Carter completed my second hip replacement on August 10; 2020. It was another out of the park bases loaded home run. I was relieved of the pain I had been dealing with for over a year and was walking without a walker or cane within two weeks. Shelby is incredibly careful, accurate and knowledgeable. He always answers my questions, knows the research on the reliability of the prosthesis and has years of experience. He has a wonderful team as well from his PA to his surgery coordinator. He gave me my life back and I am back to gardening, dog agility and all of the activities I love. ,

Dr Carter was recommended to me by two of my Doctor friends. He and his staff are top notch. At my pre-op appointment he suggested a partial knee replacement and said that call would be made day of surgery. I appreciated the fact that he did only what needed to be done. All said and done the surgery was was excellent and my after care at St David’s was superb. Dr Carter is an excellent surgeon.

Highest accolades for Dr. Carter and his team! He performed right and left knee replacements for me and both went very smoothly. His scheduler, Cheryl Ann, and PA, Alex, are both excellent as well. Both my knees had become angled inward due to arthritis, and now they are straight, which is wonderful! I highly recommend Dr. Carter for your knees!
