Dr. Shelley Marks, MD

Dr. Marks is really great: before the operation, she took the time to describe me in detail why I needed the operation, what are the expected outcomes, and so on. She came to talk to me before the surgery and gave a report back to my husband afterwards. She was careful during the post-op checkup as well. I am very happy with the experience and recovery, and felt I was in good hands all the time. Thanks Dr. Marks!

I had a great experience with Dr. Shelley Marks. She performed a hernia repair and a Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication (an operation for severe acid reflux - wraps some of your stomach around lower esophagus sphincter muscle for support - aids in proper muscle operation). I was impressed with her attention to my issues, with her knowledge, with her description of the procedure, with her prediction of expected recovery issues, and her excellent follow-up. She seems to be an intelligent and sincerely caring physician. I would highly recommend her to anyone needing her skills in her area of expertise.

She performed a hemorrhoid ligation on me a few months ago. She warned me that it might return and it did, but that's not the reason for my low review. Very little of what she told me to expect happened as she predicted. What she assured me was going to be a low pain recovery was anything but (no pun intended). When I reached out for help, she reiterated that I try a warm bath again, which hadn't worked. Overall, I did not like her "bedside manner."

I can?t comment on the competency of Doctor Marks. I made an appointment for an office visit; the day before my appointment I received a call that Doctor Marks had reviewed my medical records and decided to not perform the surgery because it was too complicated for her. She is not a bad surgeon, her information on the Internet indicated that she had lots of experience as a surgeon, but when the facts surface and the procedure is complicated, Doctor Marks may back out at the last minute.

ECH wanted to remove mom's gall bladder the day after ERCP procedure but we did not agree with that & I sought Dr Marks to do the surgery at what she determined would be a better time. PAMF had discontinued doing surgeries at Stanford H so she offered us an option to either have her do the surgery at Sequoia or her colleague at Stanford. She advised to wait 4 weeks after the ERCP. When we went for the preOp we were surprise to find she'd managed to do it at Stanford & everything went verywell.

Dr. Marks was top notch. I found her friendly, relaxed and informative. She put me at ease about my procedure (gallbladder removal) I had very little pain and no post-operative infections. I would trust her again to do another surgery.
