The Good Doctor
I recently booked an appointment to meet Dr. Shih after seeing really good reviews of him on online. The staff at the front desk was really friendly and easy to talk to.Dr. Shih himself was gentle and a good doctor - he heard out to everything I had to say with patience and made notes along the way - not a moment was I uncomfortable sharing my health issues with him and he made accurate diagnosis given my input. He did try to suggest lifestyle changes instead of directly prescribing pills which is the way that I like to function. That being said he did keep a door open and asked me to reach out to him if I wanted to get pills instead. My review is the doctor is very humane and listening and I’m glad to have gone to him.

Obsessed with uneccesary weight loss
I have a sever phobia and anxiety of doctors and Dr. Shih is wonderful. He is gentle and takes extra time in appointments. He always asks if I have any questions. The only downside is that he pushes weight loss as a 'cure for everything' and believes in the flawed and inaccurate BMI system. At every appointment, he tries to prescribe a higher dose than necessary of meds for my extremely well-controlled Diabetes only for weight loss, even though my bloodwork proves that the lowest therapeutic dose is effective. I have to push back and repeatedly tell him that I wish to practice the “health at every size” model of care. This is the only reason I am considering changing doctors. It's a shame because he's been the only doctor I can see without being sedated due to severe anxiety, but the constant fat shaming even though I have no health problems except for extremely WELL CONTROLLED diabetes makes me want to stop seeing him.

Judgmental, Biased, Unkind
Dr. Shih interrupted me in the middle of every sentence and didn't let me get through my comprehensive list of questions and concerns before stating that I need to "Eat less" and offered me weight loss injections in the office. To be clear, I am not rail thin, but am also NOT at an unhealthy weight for my size. I'm an athlete who does 15 hours of exercise a week and, work with a dietitian, which Dr. Shih would have known had he bothered to ask questions before pushing a dangerous weight loss drug on me. And the issues I discussed have been present since I was a child, at which point I was dangerously underweight. He gave me awful nutritional advice. He told me to "eat less" at least five times, and recommended that I join a weight loss program like weight watchers. I'm 23. I'm an athlete. I work with a dietitian. I have a supportive and balanced lifestyle. Dr. Shih's narrow mindedness and judgmental demeanor was the reason why I am so hesitant about seeing doctors in the first place.

I've been to Dr. Shih for two separate issues where I was afraid I may have a serious problem. He was very confident in telling me what the cause of the problem most likely is, and why I should not be as worried as I am. He was also very understanding when I told him I was uncomfortable with drawing blood, but did say he recommends it. I think he is very patient and respectful. I know someone mentioned his accent being thick. His profession is as a doctor, not an English teacher.

He is in the office 3 days a week. He does not always ask questions, & does not always respond to your statements. His nurse is not very knowledgeable when it comes to medications. I wouldn't recommend him.
