Dr. Shivani Ruben, MD

Dr Shivani Ruben takes care of my entire family, including my husband and elderly parents. She is wonderful, compassionate, and thorough. We have been seeing her for about 3 years now, and with each visit, never feel rushed. Always feel cared for and respected. She is detailed, efficient, and personable.

A couple visits were great, where she was very personable, thorough and diligent, but a couple other visits left me feeling awful as she seemed very angry, annoyed, and like she hates her job and I was a nuisance. She made rude, condescending and sarcastic comments and snapped at me a few times. I definitely don’t look forward to seeing her. She is also very hard to get a hold of if you need follow up. I’m looking for a new PCP.

What stood out in both my personal and follow-up Zoom meeting to review test results was how rude and unprofessional Dr. Ruben was during both visits. During both meetings I was loudly told to shut up. During the personal visit, I felt humiliated by Dr. Ruben's lack of sensitivity about the skin condition for which I sought a diagnosis and the lack of professionalism concerning a question I posed. When Dr. Ruben exhibited the same behavior during the follow-up Zoom meeting, she dismissed my question about her rudeness and denied making the rude comment. No doctor has ever been as rude or as unprofessional as this doctor was. I found the experience frustrating and embarrassing.

Dr. Ruben LISTENS to everything that I am saying during a visit to her office. Not only is she listening, but she makes eye contact the entire tire. She gives me referrals to a specialist, if that is deemed necessary. I am happy to refer her to anyone looking for a caring PCP.

Worst behavior I have experienced in a doctor in my 66 years. She was my PCP and dropped me as patient because I visited another internist for 2nd opinion! But I only learned this when went to get seizure prescription refilled. Pharmacy had been trying to contact her for 5 days with no response. I called her office since I needed for that evening and they told me then. Although her staff understood & tried to intercede on my behalf several times throughout the day, she repeatedly refused. I asked for her to approve just a few days to allow me to get another doctor so I would not have seizure(s). At first she inferred it was insurance related but quickly dropped that once she realized I knew that was bogus. Once I told her I would hold her liable for any physical damage I may suffer and contact the AZ Medical Bd, she contacted the dr I had seen once (w/o telling me) and asked him to call it in. Apparently self-concern finally moved her where patient concern could not. Appalling.

In my 69 years, I have never had a better doctor. She takes time with me, asks about my overall concerns and pays attention to my responses, refers me to a specialist when needed, and makes me feel cared about. My friends are envious I have such a fantastic doctor to take care of me. They wish they could get an appointment with her.

As someone with an extremely complex medical situation, I am delighted to have found Dr. Shivani Ruben. She is incredibly skilled in every area one hopes to find in their physician. She enters the room having thoroughly reviewed my history including the most recent updates regarding my Stage IV Cancer treatments and tests. She asks sharp questions and, even better, listens closely. She takes time to ask if I have any other concerns. I leave with a sense of complete confidence in her.

She doesn’t know the difference between lymph nodes and salivary glands and sent me into a lymphoma scare that was groundless

Dr Ruben is an absolute treasure in the Tucson medical field. She is smart, current, knowledgeable, compassionate, careful and professional. She LISTENS and then takes the time to explain her thoughts in simple ways. Her assistants, nurse practitioners, and office staff are helpful, understand how the system works, efficient and respectful. She responds quickly to email questions submitted via portal. I highly recommend her to anyone. She's truly exceptional.

I have been a patient of Dr. Ruben for several years. I have a complicated group of serious issues and am, frankly, not an easy patient. She and her nurse have been unfailingly kind, thorough and helpful. She goes the extra mile as patient care is "Job #1" for her. I read how doctors are more and more micromanaged by "the system" and it worries me. I would be lost without her. She listens, more to the point hears you. She thinks "out of the box" for ways to help. She is great.
