Repair of highly caicified coronary artery
On 1-30-25 Dr. Upadya perfornmed a cardiac cath procedure called the Rotablator procedure for removal of two heavily calcified deposits (with 70 & 80 % stenosis) near the top and middle of the left coronary artery at UF Health Leesburg Hospital. Their report stated, 'successful diamondback atherectomy followed by angioplasty and stenting....' - resulting in a residual 0% stenosis for both locations.

I met Dr. Upadya as a new patient and provided a history of BP readings and latest copy of my lab work. His immediate comment was “why wasn’t I on medications for high LDL”. I was surprised as the LDL reading, according to lab report, was within the referenced range and that my GP had not mentioned a concern in the past. When I asked for a further explanation, he replied that his approach was to more aggressively manage LDL using medications. I started to ask questions about diagnostic tests and other options to managing LDL. At this point Dr. Upadya interrupted saying “if I wasn’t willing to accept his recommendations then I should seek another cardiologist”. Session took approximately 10 minutes. I decided to seek a more pragmatic doctor.

I highly recommend Dr. Upadya to anyone who may have problems with their Cardio system. I have been a patient for the past 16 years and would not change him for any other Cardio specialist. I have moved and am now traveling 25 miles for my visits. A very top-notched doctor. He did a wonderful job with the Pad problems with my legs and he has put in a least three stents and one clean out in my heart. I sent a friend to him with leg problems and now when I see him he thanks me for the recommendation.

Great Doctor. I was close to having gang green on my foot. My foot Doctor called Dr. Upadya and he saw me right away. Had surgery for some blockages2 days later. Saved my foot from amputation due to no blood flow in that area. Been going to him regularly since. Is very patient and listens to your problems. My heart is in better shape since i went him. I believe he is very knowledgeable but he does not listen to his patient. It is his way or the highway. sometimes he makes me feel like I am a dog and when he says sit I am suppose to sit. He does not have the lab experience that would make him a good doctor. He makes a change in medicine and does not allow enough time to see an accurate result. I felt like a pendulum with my INR readings.

In early June, my heart was in terrible shape with blockage of three arteries. After my surgery, I promised myself that within a year, I'd be able to work out vigorously for an hour. The day after I was released from the hospital, my workout consisted of walking ten yards to my car. The second day, I made it to the driveway. I gradually increased my workout and after 6 weeks, I was able to work out on a stationary bicycle for one hour, burning 10 calories a minute. I had made my goal ten and a half months early. Dr. Upadya did excellent work and I want to encourage people if they work out to do it on a gradual basis.

Very professional and efficient treatment. All of his staff work seamlessly together and follow up on necessary medications and appointments. Dr Upadya has a diverse set of experiences and knowledge. He has a good, light way to inform a patient that he has gained too much weight. His sense of humor is delightful.
