Dr. Berven discussed options for treating my back pain and resolving my back problems. He listened to what I desired and agreed to implement it. He was thorough about seeking information about my symptoms and expressed his concerns about them.

I was diagnosed with late Ankylosing Spondylitis, and had kyphosis because of going untreated until I was 32. I was in debilitating pain. I was referred to Dr. Berven by a very good spine specialist in San Jose, because I think he recognized my case will need Dr. Berven like genius. I got a second life. He did PSO/Spinal reconstruction and fusion from T-10 to pelvis. My spine changed from C shape to that of a teen. I still have pain as it could not be completely treated, and some damage was irreversible, especially in upper back, but I will say, I can now go out, walk comfortably, drive, am not in debilitating pain. In general the Spine Center in UCSF is ranked #2 in entire US, that speaks in itself. I will always be indebted to him and other doctors/staff at UCSF.

Dr. Berven—without question—saved my life. After a 9-hour surgery, I awoke from surgery with little, if any, pain. Prior to the surgery, my pain level on a daily basis for well over three years had been a 10/10 unremitting, pain. I would literally cry myself to sleep and wonder how I was going to manage getting up the next day. Dr. Berven’s care was stellar. As a resident of the San Joaquin Valley, I have referred many patients to UCSF Spine Center, and will continue to do so.

Dr. Berven is a great & caring doctor. We even made multiple trips from Sacramento to San Francisco to see Dr. Berven. Dr. Berven and Dr. Diab did a wonderful scoliosis surgery in June on my 15 year old daughter. My daughter has not had any back pain complaints after recovery. AaShe became more active in school this school year. We're very thankful to Dr. Berven, for his great decision to fuse my daughter's spine only down to T11 instead of L3.

Dr Berven saved my life! An incompetent orthopedic surgeon in Denver made an absolute mess of my spine; I required 9 spinal surgeries including multiple attempted fusions and I was left with my spine and pelvis NOT attached! It felt like my life was over. However, I was lucky enough to meet Dr Berven and although I required 2 extensive spinal surgeries over the next few years to stabilize my spine, he gave me my life back! I am forever indebted to Dr Berven.

I went to Dr. Berven with 3 compression fractured vertebre, I could barely walk with severe pain. He did a procedure called kyphoplasty. I knew as soon as I woke up that the pain in my back was almost gone, (keeping in mind that I had some pain from the procedure). I feel that Dr. Berven basically gave me my life back! I would recommend Dr. Berven to anyone considering back surgery.

Dr.Sigurd Berven is the best, kindest and most accomodating orthopedic surgeon in town. I dont know why the other reviewer is complaining about him but he has always taken care of me when I go visit him and even regularly checks on my health via his healhloop app.

i waited over an hour and a half for this dr to come in. since they told me to get dressed, after an x-ray, when this dr. finally came in, he didn't have me get back into a gown, he never looked at me or touch my spine, hips, etc. he sat looking at the computer screen, of my x-ray. i was with him for about 10 minutes tops & then we left. terrible. i could have taken an x-ray in santa rosa & had it faxed to ucsf, avoiding the 2 hr. trip to the city. this dr. was not worth my time.
