I agree with the negative reviews.
I have been very pleased with my previous UCLA Health visits. Dr. McCarthy was a substitute for my PCP, out on leave. He said if a condition of mine did not resolve, surgery under general was the only option. Period. That evening I simply googled credible sites for the condition and found FOUR common non-surgical options. A follow up meeting with a specialist confirmed these options. Doctors can simply admit lack of expertise and commend patients for planning to see a specialist. I won't speculate why they don't do that, nor will I continue under their care.

As bad as it gets.
Worst physician I’ve ever had! Almost every message goes unreturned..I have to follow up on everything…documents take weeks and weeks. No proactive healthcare whatsoever… everything is left up to the patients. Very incompetent, and borderline malpractice.

Dr. MccCarthy was our internal medicine Dr. in Illinois for 7 yrs. before he moved to CA. Both my husband & I saw him for a variety of medical issues and his opinion and treatments were always highly valued. Dr.McCarthy's patients in California are lucky to have such a caring, competent and excellent physician. We miss him!

The best doctor I have ever had!!! Spent so much time talking with me and understanding what I needed.I will follow him wherever he might go.I couldn't ask for anyone better!!!

I seen Dr Steven McCarthy, He spent only 9 minutes with me. Was in a hurry. I would not recommend this guy to anyone. Very bad experience. I would give him no stars.

He is a fantastic PCP. I have seen him for many years and he has always stuck with me through good times and bad. I've gotten to trust him and he works very well with me and sends me to other specialists only when needed. Highly recommend him!

I met Dr. McCarthy when I went to Sherman Hospital ER with a heart attack & COPD. During my 12 day hospital stay, Dr. McCarthy spent very little time visiting with me, probably 5 to 10 minutes a day. Even if I had concerns, I could not understand him nor my diagnosis because no Polish translator was provided until my daughter from Canada arrived on day 9. I think Dr. McCarthy thought I was hard of hearing because he spoke loud and slow, but it didn't help me understand what he was saying.
