TMJ titanium jaw replacement surgery
I had a titanium jaw replacement surgery by Dr. Sewall after my tmj pad was knocked out in a accident. The level of care and expertise and his knowledge is commendable. The post surgery care was excellent.

Never
Not so good. I am now permanently impaired in my mouth movements (all around eating) , permanently disfigured. I drool, choke, cannot keep my lips together, cannot eat in public, has lost all sensitivity in my face, have excruciating headache/pins&needles episode, that extend to my neck, and I droop like I had a stroke on the right side of my face . He did smooth talk me, knew this surgery was more than he could do, but went ahead with it. It was postpone 3 times, how's that for insecurity??? Happy for those who had good outcomes. A good Dr is one that can face his bad outcomes and find a way to fix them. But to do this, one good doctor would have to admit his messing up. He avoided me. Now I am a total recluse, and I am thankful for the covid mask. I never will stop wearing it. It is the only way I can go in public without shame.

This man (and his now retired partner, Dr.Doran Ryan) essentially saved my life. I am not being overly dramatic. I had a problem with TMJ issues since high school. In 2000 things got worse. I saw an oral surgeon in Madison who did some procedures on me which did help temporarily. However, my pain, ability to open mouth/chew etc. got increasingly worse. At that point I think the Madison oral surgeon thought I was a hysterical female/exaggerating, whatever. I will admit I was not easy to deal with at that point - I was in horrible pain 24/7, my mouth opening decreasing, affecting my ability to eat other than liquids/very soft foods. Smiling hurt, talking hurt, latter made my job difficult. Walked around with ice on face almost constantly. Found Froedert Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Department. They diagnosed me with osteoarthritis in my joints, fought with my insurance company for me. I had my joints replaced in June 2009 and have had NO pain since. I truly owe them/him my life.

Best dr I've had. He explains things well. He talks to me like a person or a number. He helped fix my tmj when I felt like I was hitting a brick wall with poor outcomes. A little worried when he retires what I will do with my major tmj issues. He is a great dr and surgeon.

Dr. Sewall is pretty knowledgeable and took time to speak with us. However, the billing department is terrible. I don't know what's going on here, but you would think that an oral surgery clinic would know how to deal with dental insurance. My daughter went here for an exam for wisdom teeth removal. He suggested they NOT be removed at this time. Amount for these services is close to $700.00. Now I have a bill for surgery - WHICH WAS NOT PERFORMED! Will not go back to this place.

I called 6-8 times to get more information and schedule a procedure Dr. Sewall recommend and never got a call back. Dr. Sewall was nice, but save your time and money and go to someone else.

a very experienced doctor with a gentle touch! I brought 2 of my children who needed dental procedures, and the care they received from Dr. Sewall was beyond expectation. Dr. Sewall is an outstanding doctor who truly cares.
