Dr. Steven Svabek, DO

I am a patient of Dr. Svabek and find him to be a very capable Doctor and skilled surgeon. In January of 2022 Dr. Svabek replaced my left knee and while strengthening the muscles is still a work in progress, I am very satisfied with the results. Two weeks ago, after enduring a year of back and hip pain that was traced to my S.I. joint that did not respond well to injections, I made the decision with Dr. Svabek to undergo a minimally invasive procedure and fuse the joint in place. The down time is going to be the worst part of this experience, as I am a very active 64 year old man. I enjoy Cycling, hiking, long walks with our Dog and all of that is on hold while the joint fuses properly and that takes time - a lot of time. Everything about the procedure and the down time was explained to me and so far I am very happy with the results. I can finally sleep at night without waking up with pain that sent me to the ER on more than one occasion over the past few months. Very Underrated.

One week before Christmas I fell and damaged a perfectly well laminectomy that the Doctor had performed on me 18 months ago. My wife called Dr. Svadek's office requesting an appointment. After a few background questions, an appointment was arranged for the next day. His staff greeted me with a smile and a short conversation that put me at ease. After examination, he was straight to the point. He told me the pros and cons of the repair. After a week of MRIs, blood tests, and a course of Sterods it became very apparent the surgery needed to be done. The Surgery was completed and 4 weeks later I have near full movement in my lower (L )leg with little or no pain. Dr. Svabek is in my opinion a highly skilled orthopedic surgeon that deserves recognition. I must add that behind every good man is his team of nurses and reception staff. They are a credit to his practice.

He is more concerned with billing than patient care. I broke my ankle s she did t wait for me to take off my huge walking boot. He declined to check the swelling of my ankle because he was rushing to do billing paperwork. Very poor patient care.

He replaced my right hip and messed it up for life. I will always have a cane. He gave it too much anterior turn and made it 1 1/4” longer than the left. He had all kinds of excuses. Since then I had my left hip replaced with no problems. (Not by him) He was very arrogant. Do not go to him. He was only in the Merrillville area a short time. The hospital he was affiliated with closed his office then I think he went back to Florida.

Love Dr. Steve and he has a friendly staff! I highly recommend Dr. Svabek.
