Dr. Susan Kessler, MD

This is the most vindictive office .. the front desk and medical staff take cancellations personally .. if they think you are late for your appointment they make you wait - they re-cycle you to the end of the appointment list - i had to wait an hour and a half. Is this nasty or what .. They give you an appointment and don’t tell you when it is and then punish you when you know nothing about it .. they also write wrong dates on your appointments .. you cannot win at this office .. go somewhere else

I had an excellent experience with cataract surgery done by Dr. Kessler. She explained my options and I valued her recommendations. The surgeries went very went and I can see clearly again! The entire staff is very professional and Lisa & Cathy are very helpful and pleasant answering questions. I highly recommend Dr. Kessler as an ophthalmologist.

I have been treated by Dr Kessler for over 30 years so when I needed cataract surgery, I had no qualms about following her suggestions. The treatment went brilliantly and I see better now than in the past 20 years. I highly recommend Dr. Kessler.

The staff is amazing, but Dr, Kessler on the other hand is rude and just goes through your appointment very quickly, didn’t help me much. Last time I spoke to someone on the phone asking if I can make a new appointment and the lady told me that Dr. Kessler took me of her roster as a “patient” because I missed 1 appointment and didn’t call and tell them.. I was in the hospital so I didn’t even think to call and cancel my appointment, I was more worried about my well being. The lady who spoke to me said “I cant’t not call” like yes I can, I had an issue going on. The lady said they sent me out “confirmation” for my appointment, WHICH THEY NEVER DID, THEIR FULL OF CRAP. Therefore, I don’t recommend this office, very strict, doctor isn’t that great, or very nice either. Definitely finding a new office.

Dr Kessler is an experienced & compassionate surgeon. She explained all my options & was very thorough every time I saw her. Best of all, she does not utilize a block to perform cataract surgery (injection of an anesthetic under the eyeball preoperatively), instead relying on anesthetizing eye drops and conscious sedation during the procedure. This saved me the trauma I observed with other patients in the preoperative area who did have a block. Performing the procedure without the block requires more surgical precision and I have been extremely pleased with the procedure and outcome. Dr. Kessler's staff are extremely knowledgeable, helpful and kind, and function as a well oiled machine. I HIGHLY recommend this practice.

I have been a regular patient of Dr Kessler for many years. I just had cataract surgery this summer. Not only do I love my new vision, I had a really excellent experience. The entire staff at Dr Kessler’s office is amazing. They are kind, friendly and so very helpful. All my questions were answered and everything explained. My experience at the Albany Surgery Center was also excellent. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Everything was carefully explained. I highly recommend Dr. Kessler and her staff for the cataract surgery!

I just had cataract surgery yesterday and my follow-up appointment today and here I am, already writing a review using my new vision. Dr. Kessler was fantastic. The procedure was only a few minutes. It was quick and painless. The folks at Albany Regional Eye Surgery Center were wonderful, too. Everyone made it so easy. Listening to music the entire time was a bonus, too. I highly recommend Dr. Kessler. She and her staff are very friendly and kind. I can clearly see far away. I only need +2 reading glasses. No more cloudy vision. I am very happy with the entire process and the wonderful outcome.

You remember how Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz opens the door and sees her first look into a colorful, beautiful world? THAT'S EXACTLY how I felt after Dr. Kessler removed my cataracts. It's a brand new world. Also, her office has wonderful people who help to make you comfortable from the minute you enter until you leave. She is highly recommended - and BTW I am a very skeptical patient...she has passed my reviews with flying colors!

People who love what they do tend to be great at it and Dr.Kessler is no exception to that rule. I have been seeing her for over a decade; she is passionate about her work and always in a great mood. I found out last year that I needed cataract surgery while still in my fifties. Dr.Kessler recommended the Acrysof IQ Vivity IOL by Alcon, and I am extremely impressed with the results! No more glasses for the vast majority of my activities; no more fog when coming in from the cold or wearing a mask; I work in I.T. and my computer monitors have not been this clear in decades; I also play flute and piano and it's a delight to see the sheet music so clearly. As for the surgery itself, I must give kudos to the Albany Eye Surgery Center where several area ophthalmologists operate; the staff is wonderful, you are in and out in about 3 hours, most of which is prep time as the surgery itself takes about 20 minutes and recovery is painless, with your vision improving drastically within 24 hours.

After my cataract operation, my vision was so clear and bright. It was like someone had washed my lense with 'windex." Dr. Kessler is extremely compassionate, along with her knowledgeable staff it made for a positive outcome

Dr. Kessler is an experienced proficient eye doctor. She is very knowledgeable about anything related to eyesight. She keeps excellent records and really stays on top of necessary tests/treatments. Dr. Kessler's staff is personable and friendly and very accommodating to specific needs.

I have been a patient of Dr. Kessler for several years and can strongly recommend her as your Ophthalmologist. Her vast knowledge of the profession and her application of the same over the years has instilled confidence in me. She recently performed two cataract surgeries for me and my vision is now clear and fresh! As a Type-1 Diabetic, her treatment of my vision has been successful and I am extremely grateful for her work. Her staff is excellent and effective at what they do; professional, friendly and flexible. They are always joyful and welcoming.

When I was told I had cataracts in both eyes and I would need surgery I was worried but a friend recommended Dr Susan Kessler on the McClellan Campus. Dr Kessler was very professional, she explained everything about the surgery which immediately calmed my nerves. She was friendly and kind and very easy to talk to, her staff is wonderful they took care of all the details for me, it was a very warm and welcoming office. The Albany Regional Eye Surgery Center followed all safety protocol, the staff was friendly and explained everything being done each step post surgery, I immediately felt well taken care of. The surgery itself was fast with no pain at all. The many eye drops i had to do were overwhelming at first but they soon become a regular very necessary routine. I would like to thank Dr Kessler and her staff for the wonderful care I was given and to say I am very glad I had the surgery.

First time visit in September 2020. Issue: severe red, right eye; concern enhanced due to age and tendency to DIY without heeding eye protection. Front desk staff was extremely friendly. Problems started with maladjusted test equipment requiring chin and forehead to be simultaneously engaged for deeper inspection. The doctor curtly repeated that I should listen to her……..that I was not doing as told…….that…….. Equipment setup appeared to favor convenience of doctor. Patient’s seat was set significantly lower. Even forcefully crunching down did not help. Doctor grabbed back of my neck and pulled it into the rig. Mission complete so why complain! Perhaps doctor was tired. Happens. I do resent the ‘talking down’. After a lifetime of professional avocation it is difficult to accept being torn down by a neighbor’s pet no matter how mild the attack. Essential people-skills are deficient. I must look elsewhere.
