Dr. Taraneh Paravar, MD

I have always been told to come back in 6 months due to my history of skin cancer. I had Mohs procedure on my forehead previously for basal cell ca and history of squamous cell ca as well. She told me I didn't need to come back for 3 years, but agreed to see me in 2 and a half years. She also later refused to refill a prescription for retin-A even though it was on my medical record.

Last year, I had been experiencing soreness and pain on the right side of my tongue for nearly a year and I had not been able to eat on that side due to the increasing pain. My dentist referred me to an ENT because he noticed a 'thinning' and unusual tissue, as did the ENT. The ENT expressed concern and referred me to a specialist - a dermatologist. I saw Dr Paravar in spring of 2019 and she prescribed Nystatin for thrush and some numbing mouthwash. Even though lesions and inflammation were evident, and she stated that clearly "something was going on there" but she chose not take a swab for further lab analysis of the tissue, instead, prescribed magic mouthwash. I was just diagnosed with stage II cancer of the tongue, a tumor in the exact spot. It's very disappointing that a specialist with such great credentials didn't bother to swab the area and have it analyzed. The cancer was there and could have been caught much earlier.

I will never go to her again. When she was preparing to take a skin biopsy from my forearm she said she was going to give me a local lidocaine injection and asked if in case of side effects did I wish to be resuscitated? As UCSD Faculty involved in many clinical trials I am familiar with consent forms. I was deeply shocked that this would even be a question for a biopsy. It made me seriously question Dr. Paravar's common sense. I was not asked this when I had the mole removed across the hall.
