Dr. O'Brien performed successful cataract surgery on my eyes, which required his skills because they were a challenging case. He cautiously guided me through the procedure as we conditioned my damaged eyes for surgery, and then he did a magnificent job on the operation to the point where my vision is 20/20 in both eyes. I went to Bascom Palmer specifically for such expertise, as previous Ophthalmologists had warned me that my eyes would present big problems as they aged. I got the best eyecare in the world, and I strongly recommend both Dr. O'Brien and this marvelous facility.

Dr. O'Brien is compassionate, kind, considerate and very professional. He skillfully performed corneal transplant surgery required to repair damage caused during cataract surgery performed by a different surgeon at a different facility.

Dr. O'Brien did not listen to my requests and provided a cataract surgery that left me with worse overall vision than before the surgery. When complaints arose he shifted me off to an associate (I assume since the person was never introduced) to deal with the fall out. Since my eyes are complicated I thought that Bascom Palmer would provide excellent assessment of my specific needs. Instead I had to keep reminding providers of my diagnoses. I can only assume they didn't look at the assessments done previous to my meeting with Dr. O'Brien that contained important information. Some specifics; I waited 3 hrs for my appointments, not just the first visit, but every visit. This can only be poor planning, After surgery I was given medication whose first side effect was increased eye pressure. This even though I have glaucoma and there were other medications available. My eye pressure became higher than ever before. I do not recommend Dr. O'Brien or B-C for quality care/

Dr. O'Brien performed cataract surgery on both my eyes. I have 20/15 vision now in my right eye, and 20/20 in my left eye. I was given detailed instructions on after care, and went for my follow ups. I go now for all of my appointments, the doctor and staff at Bascum Palmer are very friendly and informative. I highly recommend Dr. O'Brien!

Dr. O'Brien is the very best eye doctor in the world and the most kindness one, also. He has saved my eye sight and helped me with all the pain I was enduring. I could never praise him enough. ??

Didn't pay attention to complexity of my eye issues.. REplaced an intraocular lens and there were complications that were not adequately explained. Didn't communicate well in answering my questions. Didn't communicate well about my progress (or not!) Never answered messages.

Installed wrong replacement lens in my eye, contrary to my request. Instead of middle focus, he close focused me. Additionally during surgery, when he attached the femtosecond laser to my eye it caused extreme pain the entire time during its use. I've talked to other eye surgeons who told me it shouldn't hurt. I have read several of his research papers and thought he was the doctor I wanted to do my iol surgery. I guess the saying 'don't believe everything you think' was true for me here.
