Frightening
Failed vitrectomy for idiopathic detachment caused permanent blindness. I had been a patient of Dr. Barnard for 15 years and he said the was nothing vision theatening at each visit. Dr. Barnard simply threw up his hands and smiled and said I was fine at followup following surgery.

Dr. Thomas Barnard’s persistence, patience, and professional skill, particularly at surgery, are continuing to make substantial progress with my left eye’s retinal issues (severe internal retinal swelling caused by clotting in a branch retinal blood vessel that began several years ago). I had almost given up hope that I would ever regain depth perception. Just before Dr. Barnard’s critical surgery (vitrectomy with an EpiRetinal Membrane peel), Eylea gave no improvement. After Dr. Barnard’s surgery and several more injections, Eylea has regained traction. Depth perception has noticeably improved. Although I still can’t read through my left eye, that may now be an achievable goal, thanks to Dr. Barnard, unlike several prior doctors, who denied or never offered surgery. The results speak for themselves.

Went to the dr. from another dr. (who had detached my retina from my right eye with a laser). The dr. repaired the retina but resulted in vision distortion where the vision is not clear long distance but with reading glasses it is which is not normal.

Referred to the dr. by another dr. who had detached my retina with a laser. Dr. Barnard repaired the fully detached retina but caused my eyesight in the right eye to become permanently distorted (where I can see long distance clearly with reading glasses which is not normal).

First referred to Florida Retina Institute over 4 years ago due to WMD. The doctors and staff have been extraordinarily committed to careful, thoughtful diagnosis and treatment. And taken the time, when asked to explain clearly ad to answer questions. Due to insurance problems, I ended up at a different retina specialist for a year that seemed to run their practice more like a billing factory for insurance plans than a healthcare organization for patients. I've been back with Florida Retina Institute for a couple of years now, and continue to be very impressed with their professionalism and patient care.

An excellent doctor with caring and patience. He explained my husband's condition in details and also left us hope that one day my husband's vision could be better after the oil is removed. After so many unsuccessful surgeries, I think as patients, we want to learn not only the facts, but the hope even though a small hope. Thank you Dr. Barnard for your understanding!

Dr. Barnard and staff, from the front desk to all the assistants are top notch, wonderful , dedicated people. My husband is a patient of Dr. Barnards and was very frightened to learn that he has macular degeneration but with the first visit Dr. Barnard put him at ease and explained the treatment and his best expectations of the treatment. He's doing very well and trusts Dr. Barnard 1000 %.

Dr Barnard is professional, compassionate, and thorough. He has performed one emergency retina surgery, and a follow up surgery to remove scar tissue on my right eye. He informed me every step of the way, and of course I was freaking out thinking of having someone poking around in my eye. He was very reassuring and made me feel that all would be ok, and it was. He also performed a procedure on my husband and he feels the same way about Dr. Barnard. His staff is also has the same qualities.

Dr. Barnard.....although quiet this man is good, very good. I am on vacation in rural North Carolina and had to go to another Doctor for my wet mac. degeneration condition, and what a difference. Severe stinging in the eye for hours later, a bloody eye, etc., etc. This never happened after treatments with Dr. Barnard. Everyone had told me that he was good and the best individual for this condition, and today proved it to me, with no doubt. Highly recommended.. I.S.K.Reeves V

Recently I found out that I had macular edema brought on by diabetes. I was referred to the Florida Retina Institute and was seen by Dr Thomas Barnard. I found him to be the type of doctor I prefer, relaxed, and friendly, but. direct. He was able to show me images of the damage and clearly explained my condition and consequences. Sucessful laser surgery was performed two days later. Cataract surgery may be necessary a few years down the road and this is the doctor I intend to use.

I began visiting Dr. Barnard about two and half years ago for retinopathy in both eyes. He has taken great care to properly assess my condition and make suggestion as how to treat it. Eyes are so very important and the care given is critical to maintaining good eye sight. Having said that, trust is of paramount importance. And I trust Dr. Barnard. He and his staff are professional and caring and I know I am getting excellent care. And I highly recommend him,
