Excellent and consistent care. 12 years.
Excellent Provider and Staff. 12 years every 3 months with consistent care. 67 years old now, since I was 28 (39 years), annual testing via medical physicals did not detect why I was so lethargic, but Dr. Stern did. Thankful to him and his sleep studies, I now know it is Narcalepsy and have the best routine (medicine and personal habits) to help with my symptoms. Dr. Stern and staff also continue consistently to keep me informed of all new clinical studies and upcoming research and timeframes for treatment.

Huntersville Office has HORRIBLE customer service
In April, I had an appt - card said, “anytime before 4:30.” I arrived at 4:25. Door was locked. I rang the bell & called. When the sleep tech came to the door, she was surprised no one was there. I showed her my appt card. I called the next day, they told me, “You should have called. We leave @ 4:00.” I was told to come every 6 wks to keep my ins happy. In Oct, I had an appt at 4:00. As I was driving N on I-77, a digital sign said there was a wreck at Sam Furr & I-77 was blocked - take I-485, which I did with 1000s of others. I called at 3:54. No answer; I left a msg, explaining the situation. I called 3 more x and left another msg. I arrived at 4:25. Lady outside was trying to get in and said door was locked. I called them later, they said they had heard my msg. and I would have a $50 “no show” fee. They claimed that they were there until 5:30. Actually, I only need to come ONCE/YEAR to keep ins happy. I didn’t even need the appt. They would rather lose a patient than admit wrong.

Excellent first visit
Since recently moving to the area, I was looking for a Dr to monitor my sleep apnea. Dr Stern was recommended by my primary care giver. I could not be more pleased. The office staff were friendly and proficient, and I was seen in a reasonable time after checking in. Dr Stern did a through review of my medical history and checked out my cpap machine and made recommendations. Excellent visit.

Drove 20 min to appointment, even was early, just to be told Dr Stern had to be at a meeting and I had to reschedule. Received a call to get there early, while I was already on the road. He is not the friendliest guy either. Felt like he rather be playing golf than be with patients. When someone loses his passion for what he does, he should get out of the business.

Horrible experience!!! Limited on characters, what I can say is save yourself the time/money. Dr. Stern is pompous and arrogant to say the very least. He asked my thoughts but cut me off. From the beginning I could tell that he never really cared what I had to say. It was obvious anytime that I mentioned anything that he disagreed with that he thought it was silly and that he knew better. He made statements to me like, “I have medicine behind me, what do you have?” While explaining how my body felt he discarded my comments by saying I had no problem with it, but didn’t care to explain what I could do to feel better. When I finally understood this was a waste of time I said I think this is over and he commented, “Great, don’t come back to this office.” Are these the comments of a professional? He thinks more of himself than I do and shouldn’t worry, I won’t be back. Regardless of diagnosis this behavior should never be seen in the medical community. Example: First, do no harm.

I saw him during the Covid pandemic. When I expressed my concern and worry to him, he got very defensive and said he had more knowledge and experience and knew better than me. I told him I didn’t feel safe, and he said I could go somewhere else. He told me that masks and gloves did no good and that I’ve been watching too much TV. I was very upset at the whole experience. He not only took no precautions, but was rude and condescending too. I will not go back.

Dr. Stern is the top sleep doctor in town. His staff and office are also excellent. We've been coming to Dr. Stern for our son's sleep apnea since he was about 5. He's now 11 and we just love Dr. Stern; wouldn't trust anyone else. He's extremely knowledgeable, very professional and patient, and has a great bedside manner with our son. It's important to go to a specially trained pediatric sleep doctor, more so for us because our son has Down syndrome and needs a very competent specialist. He has always taken the time to explain everything in a way that's easy to understand and is always willing to answer all my questions. And I have usually have many!

I would NEVER EVER recommend Dr. Stern to anyone. He basically said to me that my daughter was more than likely going to pass away prematurely anyway!! It's not like he even said it with a ounce of compassion, he just said it like it was nothing to him. Yes my daughter is medically complex but she is doing great overall. And also he knows NOTHING about her condition. FYI Dr. Stern, you are NOT God! He also always seemed like he was sleepy at our appointments. Basically, just a terrible doctor.

Don't come here unless you have LOTS and LOTS of time to spare. In two of my last three appointments I have waited for an hour past my appointment time to see Dr Stern. No telling how long the wait would have been on the last visit because I finally walked out. It appears that an appointment time is only good to get you in the door then you have no idea when you'll be seen.

I went to Dr. Stern to discuss my issues with insomnia. He recommended that I get off sleep medications, I was taking Ambien at the time, because of the short and long term risks. I appreciated his honesty and encouragement to help me with my sleep problems in a healthy way. I took his recommendations and changed my daily habits, like cutting out caffeine and alcohol and exercising. Finally sleeping through the night again! Thanks Dr. Stern!

I found Dr. Stern to be professional and extremely helpful in helping assist with my sleep problems. I never realized all the factors involved in what causes sleep problems, and he considered all the issues that would help my sleep improve. A lot of doctors want to prescribe medication and push you out the door, but I didn't want to find myself reliant on a prescription to sleep. I really appreciated his thoroughness and would highly recommend him to anyone who wants real answers and help.
