Dr. Thomas Vonunrug, MD

Doctor recommended lots of testing. I mentioned one of the tests was completed several days ago...he said things could have changed; he was rude about it and talked down to me. He also wanted to do an invasive procedure. I asked about risks of procedure. I felt he was trying to force me. He was not nice at all. He said there were no risks. I researched and there are risks involved. Then he said well, we can just make you comfortable and call in hospice care if you do not want to do procedure. Later the same day, the nurse informed me that they came to get me for the procedure, but she told them the patient has not agreed to the procedure yet. Next day, he brought in nurse with him. He asked what was issue yesterday. I said you were rude yesterday. He said he was insulted that I had that perception and that I would even say that.

I only wanted to leave a review because I saw another review describing exactly what happen to me! I went to this doctor expecting to a problem to be fixed. Only to go through week after week of irrelevant testing so that they could receive money from insurance. Just went to the first doctor since, which I was hesitant to do because of all the money I wasted. And we have made more progress in the first day then vonunrug did in 6 months.

Dr VonUnrug is a cordial and pleasant man who seems to care for his patients when he is with the patient. However, the minute you are not sitting in front of him is another story. His office team and Office Manager, Esther, are horrible to work with. They do not care about patient health or patient care and they are not helpful or empathetic. Esther refuses to allow patients to speak with the doctor, she refuses to take messages and have the doctor call you back - even when you are still in the office after an appointment. She is more worried about collecting multiple co-pays than providing any type of service. And because she is the office manager (and related to Dr VonUnrug) you are unable to get past her to even let the doctor know of this poor behavior and practice!! She is a roadblock that impacts patient care. They schedule you for monthly appointments just to collect more billings. They overbook appointments and keep you waiting for anywhere from 45 minutes to 2-hours without any acknowledgement or apology. They force you to set up telehealth or in person appointments to collect more billings from insurance! They charge you $25 to fill out any paperwork or forms required for your healthcare - insurance forms, aid & attendance forms, hospital forms. It is sad to see this type of behavior from your healthcare provider. After waiting over an hour for our scheduled appointment and being rushed through my appointment once seeing the doctor, I forgot to ask a question. On my way out as I was making the next appointment i said "oh, i forgot to ask a question. I asked to speak with the doctor or if they could ask the doctor my question real quick. I was told absolutely not. My appointment was over and the doctor could NOT call be back. I could make another appointment if i wanted to speak with him again. After a telehealth video appointment the same thing happened. I called the next day to ask the doctor to call me back as i had follow up question regarding my televisit. Again, they refused to take my number and have the doctor call me back. My last encounter was again - trying to reach the doctor to review my list of medications. To assure i was getting the right medications and dosages. Not only would the office staff refuse to review the list of prescribed medications they also refused to let the doctor contact me to review them! I was told to speak with my pharmacy! This puts lives in danger and was totally unacceptable. If you're looking for a caring, reliable, responsive healthcare provider i'd look elsewhere. This office is miserable.

Total scam office, they looking only money and if you have insurance they charge you as they can.

Total scam office worker and his wife. This is dr. Thomas office total scam, you have to be careful, because before and after the appointment, the office manager (actually the doctor's wife) speaks completely differently about the policy and other procedures, in the end they charge you as they can, it doesn't even happen in appointment with doctor.After I found out that most patients don't have insurance and they like to work for cash. Have to avoid this doctor.

Dr. vonUnrug is a careful listener and digs into everything you are concerned about and things he finds. He seeks to get at the root of the problem and then provides ways towards healing. He is a kind, trustworthy, and gentle doctor with a lot of knowledge. Plus, his staff are professional and personable.

Dr. von Unrug has been my primary physician for several years and he has taken great care of my health. He is caring, practical and extremely knowledgeable. I am lucky to have found a doctor who provides such an exceptional quality of medical care. His staff is also cordial and easy to speak to. On several occasions I have called for a same day appointment and Esther has always been able to accommodate me. I can't sufficiently express how grateful I am for Dr. von Unrug and his staff.

Kind, caring, always ready to help and give you the best professional answer that you can get. Not many primary care physicians like him left!!

Every patient needs a doctor that listens. Dr von Unrug listens to his patients without interrupting and with a lot of empathy. He makes me feel better every time I have a visit.

An internist should not force patient to buy skin products, or non related merchandise. An internist is not a shopping Mall? As a medical doctor you should concentrate on saving life and choices best for patients NOT you or your wife? Your wife is causing major damage to your practice read all reviews Such a shame.

The best doctor ever! Bedside manner and the way he treats his patients is beyond exceptional. He cares. He will find answers and he will find a way to get you the treatment you need to get to feeling better. He has changed my life.

Dr. Von Unrug is the MOST patient physician, and is clear and concise in his diagnosis. He is the best doctor in Lexington, and I highly recommend him to anyone who needs a good doctor.

Dr. Von Unrug is THE BEST doctor I have ever had ! He is patient, knowledgeable, and is ALWAYS available to do the best for his patients. I just had a tele-help zoom call with him, and it is almost 8:00 p.m. He takes time for his patients, no matter what. He and his Wife were STILL at the office this late, helping their patients ! I couldn't believe it. He quickly diagnosed my problem, prescribed the best medication, and calmed my nerves. If you need a great physician, Dr. Von Unrug is the BEST. His office staff is SUPERB. They are caring and compassionate. I would give them 100 stars if I could !

He is very thourough and always takes his time in answering any health questions I may have. He has a smile on his face and can tell funny jokes. He really takes an interest in improving the health of his patients.
