I’d like to give him “the boot.”
Shame! Shame! It seems Dr. Self had a modus operandi. Diagnose a fractured foot and torn tendons by using a sonogram (apparently this isn’t the way to diagnosis these things) put you in a big black boot for 2 months. I heard this story from a number of his patients AND the Adventist Health Orthopedic offices in Sonora. “Don’t take one step on your foot or it may break,” he told me. So I wore that $%#@ boot for 8 weeks, sitting on the couch. Terrified to get in and out of the shower, terrified to move much. I never had a fractured foot, I have a few spurs. Now my muscles are atrophied, I am terribly out of shape. IT takes a lot for me to get mad, and I am furious. On a positive note, he is charming and his staff is nice.

No boot!
My husband was complaining of foot pain so I made him an appointment with a podiatrist (makes sense, right?) Wrong! He had an appointment in March and Dr Self ordered an ultrasound and said the results were that he had a fractured heel. Thus sold him a ‘boot’ for $300! He wore the boot, for approximately 7 weeks. Went back in April for a follow up and said he needed to wear it another month. After speaking with SEVERAL people about this situation they ALL said the same thing…. “He gave you a boot, right?” (We think he must have stock in the boot company) We were then recommended by friends and family to go to an orthopedist and get an X-ray as his foot pain was not improving at all. That Dr diagnosed plantar fasciitis (which we had researched) and gave him a shot of cortisone and recommended foot exercises. It’s only been a few days and his foot is improving already. If you go to Dr Self and he prescribes a boot, get a second opinion.

I saw Dr Self on the 16th of June, 2020. Front desk gals were very helpful & roomed me immediately. I didn't have much of a wait for the Dr. either. He offered me the appropriate means to ascertain what was going on with a foot that I broke back on Dec 10th. I drove all the way from Colorado to have this done since of the 3 Dr's(?) in Colorado, non of them would prescribe the high definition ultra sound. They all 'refused' my request for a 300$ ultra sound & used the 'protocol' excuse to demand an MRI, (900$ w/o ins.) which I overstand would be absolutely pointless as it would not show the soft tissue damage i'm dealing with. So, I say if you want answers, Dr self can find them for you. THANK YOU IMMENSELY TODD! -tj

I went to see Dr. Self for foot pain about a month ago. I was so surprised with my visit, I was taken immediately back to exam room (no waiting in the waiting room). His staff was very nice and professional. Dr. Self was very friendly, thorough in explaining what was going on with my feet and came up with a solution THAT WORKED!!! I would recommend Dr. Self to anyone with a foot/ankle problem, he was GREAT!!

I had a simple procedure to correct my ingrown toenails! I developed bad infections, and he refused to prescribe antibiotics, until I created a scene! The antibiotic did not clear infection and I requested a refill, which he denied. He then released me from care, with an active infection present. I was seen by my primary, who reordered the Abx and referred me to a Modesto podiatrist, who confirmed a "raging infection"! Both toenails fell off and a year and a half later, have not grown back.
