Dr. Upendra Patel, MD

Asked him to please refer husband (also a patient to Endocrinologist, because of critical hypoglycemic episodes during the night and my inability to get an appt. These episodes involved unconsciousness. He refused to try to help refer to an Endocrinologist or prescribe a better glucometer to better manage my husband’s blood sugar. Very lazy and rude. Negligent at best!

I am 85 years old. In my 85 years I have seen an untold number of doctors for my care. Dr. U. Patel is without any doubt, the worst. I did not choose him as my physician, he inherited my wife & myself, the result of my different doctor leaving. I could go on & on describing my negative experiences. I am not allowed enough space here to do that. One example - My wife was seriously ill with lots of pain over the weekend. It was a situation of being unknown if I should take her to the Emergency room? We waited patiently for Monday morning when Dr. Patels' (Her primary doctor) office would open. I left my wife and I was at his office so as to be there as #1. I found out that Dr Patel was at his S. City office that day. His office staff called him and was obviously embarrassed to turn around to tell me "Dr Patel said to tell you to go find a pain doctor somewhere." I went back to my car in disbelief and cried for only one of the few times in my life. I could go on and on. A terrible doctor.

Dr. Patel has been my primary care physician for 18 years until my relocation to Costa Rica. My experience with Dr. Patel has been very positive.

I was explaining a medical condition that I was concerned about. In the middle of my explanation he interrupted me & said "I have other patients waiting" and immediately ceased my explanation. In other words I was taking too long. His assistant Amy is a round peg in a square hole. Absolutely and totally incompetent & lazy.

I would NOT recommend Dr. Upendra Patel to ANY woman. He appears to be prejudiced against women--observations from 3 other women, 1 a patient, plus me, while escorting my mom to his office. On my mom's last appt., April, '16, Dr. P. rudely lett us, no explanation, halfway through the issues we wished to discuss. He has dropped my 102 yr. old mom as a patient, again without ANY explanation. In my opinion, his manner has been aloof, paternalistic, and indifferent to the point of irresponsible.
