I switched to Dr. Niemi after my original neurologist switched to working with veterans. She has no interpersonal skills. I suffer from chronic migraines, but is very manageable with the meds I've been using for a decade. So I really just needed her to continue to fill them. The whole appointment felt like a drug ad. She kept pitching this new 'amazing' drug... except she couldn't explain the benefits of why I should switch, or why it was better than what I was already taking. Id swear to you she was being paid to sell that drug, I had to say no so many times before she just refilled my usually prescription. What should have been a quick 15 minute appointment took an hour.

A nightmare
I am epileptic but managed easily with meds and seizure free for a decade, really just need someone to continue writing me the Rx. She treated me with suspicions and made me get extra tests. Worst of all, she wrote on my medical chart that I 'identify as male' which is not true and I never have said that. I think she has a problem with queer looking people or gender non confirming people... weird to be making assumptions and incorrect marks in my medical files. Very rude and difficult

Dismissive and Out of Touch. AVOID
I went to Dr. Niemi with a serious nuero issue. Something that has been escalating and developing over a few years. Dr. Niemi made me feel unheard and was dismissive of my input. Made me feel alone in a very scary situation. Furthermore, her treatment plan was not inline with current medical research and would absolutely put me at risk for further decline. When presented with what I was comfortable doing (and is regarded by experts as the current best path forward) she just referred me to someone else. Extremely disappointing.Advice for Dr. Niemi: Retire! You obviously care more about what you think you know rather than keeping up with modern medicine or listening to your patients.I now will need to explore other neurologists, have a delay in reasonable and effective treatment, and am out thousands of extra dollars for visits with Dr. Niemi.

Incompetent
Was seen for chronic migraines. Never looked at any medical history including the forms I filled out immediately prior to the start of my appointment. Prescribed med. Didn't believe me when I first called about side effects because it doesn't usually' have those effects (Google disagrees) Ended up in the ER for side effects and side effects from coming off it too. After waiting 2 months for a follow-up appointment, she again didn't look at the symptom report that I filled out prior to appointment before offering me a medication. I've had low blood pressure my entire life and the report indicated light headedness. She offers me this med and I ask if it's wise to given my medical history . She suggests then that there's not anything she can do to help me and I should 'figure out my other medical stuff first.' All she knows how to do is prescribe drugs and can't even do that right. Isn't honest about potential side effects. Can't deal with complex medical history.Dangerously incompetent

This doctor needs to retire. She does not listen, nor ask questions, nor does she even care. Her goal is to be done with you as soon as she can so she can go home.

Dr Niemi was efficient, practical, empathic, knowledgeable and precisely diagnosed my problem as coming more from the neck pain than from the traumatic brain injury and subarachnoid hemorrhage fromhaving a tree fall on me. This was a very scary episode, with potential for frightening consequences, and both my husband and I were quite happy to be in Dr. Niemi’s competent and reassuring care. I would recommend her to anyone, but expect efficiency.

I was referred to neurology for chronic back pain, unexplained falling, numbness and tingling in my hands and feet. I was given a 60-second "neurological exam", followed by a referral to PT. Dr. Niemi did not show any concern or curiosity about my symptoms at all I was not asked one probing or follow-up question, such as when the symptoms started, if anything made symptoms worse or better, etc. Dr. Niemi was abrasive and dismissive. I will see a new provider with my MRI results. Beware.

This woman is abrasive and has no interpersonal skills. She acts as if we are wasting her time. She is totally inept and cannot communicate. She added zero value to the care. She was rude and dismissive.

She ordered an EEG which came back abnormal, then ordered an MRI and after the MRI had a nurse call me and say good news everything looks good no need for anymore appointments ?? I was in severe pain with numb legs or I wouldn't have gone to the Dr. I requested the MRI disk and took it elsewhere and they immediately saw fluid built up around my spine at L4-L5 and ordered a procedure immediately. I had immediate relief after that but I wasted 3 months with Dr. Niemi with no results.
