Dr. Venkat Perumal, MD

My wife was seen by Dr Perumal as a three day follow up from the ER for a broken foot. She was told they don't prescribe pain medicine and that she would have to go to her primary care of she needed something. This is a university hospital orthopedic surgeon with a patient with a broken bone and he wasn't either unable or unwilling to give proper treatment. If this is UVA policy, then they should all hang their heads in shame.

Dr.Perumal did surgery on my right ankle in June 2019. It was quite an extensive surgery with several issues including a 6cm split tear in a tendon, an OCD in the talor dome, ligament shortening etc. I cannot say enough about the good experience the surgery was. The staff at UVA made the experience almost pleasurable. I felt absolutely no pain throughout the surgery prep. My recovery has been better than expected with Dr Perumal's staff answering any questions I have had through out the process. I have never felt rushed at any of my appointments. Any concerns I have had have been addressed to my satisfaction. I highly recommend this team for ankle issues.

0 stars people I implore you do your research before you let this man touch you. I went in for routine foot fusion and came out with CRPS!! I implore you to look that up. Sadly I went to him as a Married 55 y/o with a 8,5,3, y/o children with very little pain in my foot. He knowing I also have osteoporosis and thinning bones says “I can fix that foot” I says you can? Well, here fix that sucker. You know since now me like a lot of people has this Medicaid to pay for it. What a mistake I made?? I shoulda walked right out the door, NO, Dr Perumal shoulda said sir with your bones in this condition I cannot perform surgery on you. That’s what a professional Dr should do!!! Ughh now I hurt sooo bad all the time, all he had to do was say NO sir and I would have left with no regrets. Be careful people with all these positive reviews. That’s what $50,000 so far has been paid to Medicaid by the way. I hope you’re having a wonderful pain free life Dr Perumal ??

Dr. Perumal fixed my right ankle 2 years ago, and he just performed another surgery on my left. He is simply amazing! Patient, kind, personable, he has incredible bed side manners, and he does amazing work! The staff is friendly and courteous as well. Thank you all!!

Dr. Perumal performed my ankle surgery in October; I can't say enough good things about Dr. Perumal and his staff. They have gone above and beyond and recovery is better than expected!

Dr. Perumal is very thorough and professional and he has a very efficient and polite staff supporting him. Unlike many doctors today, he is also very personable and has a great bedside manner. Highly recommend him.
