I was in the ER yesterday in extreme pain in the shoulder and upper arm after a fall 2 days earlier. (possibly a tear in the same shoulder in which I have had rotator cuff surgery.) I also hit my head and am on a blood thinner. I was very very impressed with Dr Carter's thoroughness about my situation. And very very impressed with his calm, friendly, reassuring way of relating to me and the other patients there. I also heard him speaking to a younger colleague saying he'd be "right behind" her. I was curious and did a google search this morning and found his moving essay about being an ER doctor during covid. I was struck not only by his personal, human response to those suffering, but also by his account of "we're all in this together" way of relating to colleagues, regardless of specialty.

I have made several visits to the emergency room at NYP and on more than one occasion Dr. Carter has come in to check on my case and personally coordinate my care. He is professional, quick, and concerned for the well-being of everyone in the ER - patients and staff alike.
