Dismissive of Pain - Do not Recommend
I was taken by ambulance to Highlands ER due to the worst pain I’d ever experienced, one day post a major surgery on my ankle. When Dr. Schrading came in the room, I explained that I was in excruciating pain & he made a comment about how that’s expected after a major surgery. I tried to explain that there is no way this pain is normal (I have a high pain tolerance!) and he made a comment along the lines of “well have you had this surgery before - how do you know it’s not normal?”.He told me an orthopedic doctor would come check on me. She did & said they’d be giving me an IV to assist in pain relief. Dr. Schrading later came in, & said he was getting ready to discharge me. I explained that the orthopedic doctor told me I was getting an IV for pain, & he said that “I don’t need that” & that a nurse is coming to get me ready to leave (dismissing the orthopedic doctor). He gave me a few stronger pain meds for later but downplayed my entire situation while being condescending.

Awful. I have no words.
Worst ER doctor I’ve ever encountered, and I work in medicine so that says a lot. Condescending from beginning to end, could tell he hated his job. Talked over my partner (the patient) and I multiple times when we were trying to explain the fainting/seizure episode he experienced. Towards the end he got downright rude, and informed us since my partner is “young and healthy he has no risk factors for heart issues.” Completely forgetting we JUST told him my partner’s father died very young, very suddenly from a random heart attack in his sleep. Absolutely wild. Please avoid this man, he ego could seriously harm someone someday. Note - I really do my best to give ER staff the benefit of the doubt. But this was just unacceptable.
