Disappointing visit to a highly recommended Dr
Dr. Bixenman was rude and dismissive. After reading the referral and doing a quick exam, he said that the probability of improvement was zero and it was 'up to God'. He referenced God a few times, which I thoguht was inappropriate in a medical setting. But even more concerning was that he would not offer any suggestions with regard to things we could do to improve chances of recovery or mitigate the damage. We left very discouraged and depressed.Fortunately we had an appointment with a neurologist the next week and he was great, also saying that the probability of recovery was low, but offering lots of ideas about ways we could improve the chance of recovery and ways we could adapt to the challenges of the condition. Its been a couple of months and we are seeing steady improvement, both psychologically and physically. This is not because of 'God', but because we found a competent, compassionate doctor who made a positive difference.

Excellent, outstanding
Clearly this doctor is exceptional. Was very thorough. Answered all my questions before I could even ask them. I enjoyed his banter as he put me at ease immediately. I got a great report so that helped. I would rate this doctor as one of the best. If you need a great ophthalmologist you should see him. Tucson is fortunate he is here.

Upsetting Appointment
This was the most upsetting doc appointment I’ve ever had. The first thing Dr Bixenman asked me was why I was wearing a mask. I explained that I had had open heart surgery several months earlier and was protecting myself from illness. He told me that masks don't do anything and the reason I never had Covid was because I washed my hands. I felt intimidated and disrespected. He then began talking about God. I wasn't sure what God had to do with my condition. I felt that bringing up God in a medical appointment was inappropriate. The reason for my appointment was because I had a stroke during my open heart surgery and as a result had serious neurological deficits with my vestibular reflexes, vision and balance. I was of the understanding that he specialized in NEURO Ophthalmology and was excited to glean insights from him about how these neurological issues could be improved. This did not happen. Finally, he began to criticize the physical therapy I explained that I was receiving. Ugh

Dr. Bixenman is a gross, inappropriate man making all kinds of innuendos to a female patient. Thankfully I was in the room with my daughter and we were both absolutely floored by his inappropriate comments, my poor daughter, she was VERY uncomfortable and we could not wait to get out of his office. Outside of this behavior he also referenced God throughout the visit, if we'd wanted to discuss the issue with God we could've gone to church for that and saved the $150 copay for the visit. Lastly, as our COVID numbers skyrocket he told my daughter to remove her mask stating "they don't do any good anyway". Ugh! Worst doctor either one of us have ever had to deal with. We were referred to him as "the best" for a condition that needed "the best" to evaluate, but in our opinion he is "the worst".

Dr. Bixenman is inappropriate with female patients. He is an excellent doctor. He was the only one who could provide a diagnosis for my vision condition, after I had seen dozens of medical professionals who couldn't figure it out. But it was very uncomfortable being in his office alone. His joking comments about removing clothing, being in the presence of a beautiful young lady, etc., were totally inappropriate. If you are in need of a neuro-ophthalmologist, he is the best in town. But if you are female, bring a support person with you to the appointment.

Dr Bixenman is WONDERFUL! He really knows what he's doing and has helped me so much! I don't even live in Arizona -- I live in Washington State -- and I specifically fly to Arizona so I can have him as my eye doctor. He is the best at what he does.

Dr. Bixenman is probably the most arrogant doctor I have ever met. I requested a change to my eyeglass prescription but he ignored my request and never told me that he had.. Worse, I came to him for a specific vision problem. He told me repeatedly that nothing could be done. However, I found a specialized clinic in another state. The new prescription I got there has allowed me to drive at night again. I would never recommend him for any health issue.

My husband had a severe cerebellar stroke last August. His primary care physician recommended he see Dr. Bixenman for double vision associated with the stroke. Dr. Bixenman gave my husband a prescription that did not correct his problem but actually made it worse. So we scheduled another appointment with him for today. My husband, who still has trouble walking and gets very tired, waited a full half hour for Bixenman and then just walked out in disgust. How do these doctors get away with this?
