Worst ER physician!!
Dr Dowlen saw my brother in the ER on 7.14.24 and completely overlooked extensive medical records regarding his acute myleoid leukemia diagnosis in 2020 and extensive inpatient stays at Memorial Hospital in 2022 due to low platelets and urgent critical care needed. He DID NOT order blood work. Rushed my brother out the door with meds for muscle cramps and neuropathy. The next day at primary Dr office my brother's white blood count was over 83! Platelets under 35. PCP did an urgent direct admit bypassing the ER. Dr. Dowlen should take time to look at patient history before dismissing a critically ill patient.

Patient and caring
I went to ER with chest pains and Dr. Dowlen was on call. Never have I dealt with an ER doc who took the time to explain each of the tests performed and made sure I understood my condition. I know ER Depts can be hectic and doctors need to run from one patient to another. Dr. Dowlen never made me feel like I was just one in a long line of patients. Highly recommended.

Rude and dismissive
I came into the ER complaining of chest pain and a massive migraine. I have a history of migraines but am a very healthy active woman. He came bursting into my room multiple times without knocking and flipping on lights to talk AT me and not TO me. If he was a better diagnostician I could almost look past his severe lack of bedside manner, but he didn’t even allow me to ask any questions. He was dismissive of most of my symptoms and didn’t even get my list of daily medications or seemed to care that I am in fact a human being! I hope he learns from his actions but based off other reviews on this website, this has clearly been an issue for years. His Nurse Practitioner was lovely but that definitely did not make up for his lack of care and attention to me as his patient in need. I will be making my issues known to the proper authorities at the hospital! Just completely unacceptable. Where is common courtesy???

It took 3 hours to be able to see a doctor, but Dr. Dowlen was excellent and was apologetic about the delay. He was very thorough and responsive to my husbands pain. Dr. Dowlen paged my husband’s orthopedic MD to get current input, reviewed XRAYS AND MRI from outside facility. After plans were made and pain meds were given, he went on with his work. We waited to assure no medication reactions, but there was no relief either. I asked a lovely lady in ER staff to tell Dr. Dowlen. He came back and reassessed my husband and treated further. We are home and appreciate the care Dr. Dowlen gave.

I was in the ER yesterday for extreme pain in my feet which had open wounds along with a class 10 migraine headache at the time with dizzy spells. He declared what I was going through wasn't worthy of being an ER problem since I have been suffering from neuropathy for the past 17 tears and migraine headaches for over 30 years and that interrrupted him from his lunch hr. When they did the blood pressure standing up. I nearly put my hand through the dry wall due to the pain I was going through. This doctor needs to be re-educated on what neuropathy is and that not all neuropathy isn't caused by alcohol or diabetes. Thanks to Dr. Dowlen, it makes me nervous and apprehensive on whether I will go to the ER for any more treatment unless it's at death's door if I will get any help with genuine compassion.

I am in the ER now at memorial north park. So far he seems very dismissive of my problems. I am a 44 year old male with a cardiac history. 02/2013 cabg x4 by 7/2013. Two of the 4 grafts blocked off and they placed 1 stent in my LAD. In 03/2017 had a single bypass to replace the one that blocked in 2013 around my RCA. Then in 2/2018 had gallbladder removed. I came here hurting really bad and being shaky and nauseous. He came in and pretty much acted like he didnt believe anything I was saying.

Dr Dowlen treated me while I was in the ER at CHI Memorial. He was very thorough and explained the results of my multiple tests very well. Despite the usual hectic pace of ER visits, I had total confidence I was getting the best of care. I’d highly recommend Dr Dowlen
