Consummate professional & credit to his profession
A compassionate and knowledgeable provider with the patient's well-being uppermost in mind. Having ground through multiple providers for myself and others to find this spectacular professional has been phenomenal for my mental health. Those around me can tell that my interactions with him have improved my quality of life and theirs. Can not even begin to understand any negative review for this Doctor.

i have seen many Psychiatrists over the past 40 years. In my opinion Dr. Cox is by far the best. I can't understand all of the negative reviews, except they come from patients who do not want to hear what he recommends. I find Dr. Cox to be there when you need him, very responsive and understanding. While he doesn't probe, he listens intently, and responds appropriately. In my case he has suggested medication and seems to prefer it to psychotherapy, which is to my liking, and it has worked successfully. I hope that all of the negative reviews do not prevent potential patients from giving Dr. Cox a try.

Dismissed my issues. Repeatedly forgot who I was and what I was there for. Kept increasing a medication that was slowly killing me and when I asked about if the side effects I was experiencing were normal he asked me, a 21 year old female, if I "was a PMSer" If I could rate negative stars I would.

I saw Dr. Cox for several appointments then left. I never missed, was always early, but he was 40-60 mins late for every appointment. My appointments were also cut shorter than what I had been scheduled for and paid for, probably shorting my appointments to get closer to being on time for later patients. He told me he could provide therapy in addition to meds, and I was paying for full therapy sessions in addition to med services, but he seemed to only want to educate me about meds and seemed uncomfortable if I tried to shift to something other than med talk. I stopped going for those reasons, not because of lack of motivation or effort on my part, as he seems to imply in response to other reviews. I found a new med provider and therapist, had a great working relationship with them for 2 years, made a lot of progress and they are always timely and putting in effort along with me. Dr. Cox is not a bad psychiatrist, but he’s not a therapist and it seems like he’s not the most self-aware.

Mr. Cox does not deserve the "tittle" of doctor. I met this person for 1hr and 10min. In that amount of time he determined that my condition, which 4 other health care providers deemed causally related to my incedent, had nothing to do with anything that happened. He was more concerned about my ed wife and how I felt towards her. He was also a "doctor" at the VA in albany and from working with the people there he was not well liked and provided very poor services (for lack of better words). I would not recommend this person to anyone for any reason he does not listen to what you are say and drifts off during the entire session. Then just writes how he feels not what you are actually saying.

Let me start off by saying to any potential patients, please disregard the negative reviews because they are false. Dr. Cox is a intelligent, caring, and empathetic physician. He treats his patients with kindness and demonstrates great objectivity in his evaluations. He is fair and is probably one of the best psychiatrists I have ever met. I have dealt with several mental health professionals and he is by far the best in all aspects.

×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Cox?
Dr. Cox is the worst Mental Health professional I have ever seen. Despite his low grades I had to start seeing him because I could not find a anyone else taking new patients. Dr. Cox is a crook. One day I stayed an extra 15 minutes and he charged me an extra $100 and labeled it "psychotherapy" after the $86 I already paid upon arrival. this man is a crook and should have his license revoked. I have filed complaints and have asked around to other psychs about him and he's known for this. AVOID

Dr. Cox will look at you like he’s listening but in reality he’s off in LaLa Land and has no idea of anything you just said?? When he tries to sums up what you just confided in him it’s like he was having heard a totally different conversation with another person? This happened each time I saw him? If you are considering setting up an appt with this guy I’d say DON’T!

Didn't really ask appropriate questions. Everything he said was very confusing; I felt like I was being manipulated. We never focused on my anxiety, which I didn't notice until after I left. Altogether, it was uncomfortable. Also, the office was running one of those aromatherapy diffusers which made it hard to breath, sort of surprising for a health center.

Known for his eloquent writing and IME work, this doctor can brilliantly, manipulatively & gracefully turn you into an entirely different person than you are in reality after speaking to you once. His report broke my heart & my faith in those who take an oath to do their jobs honestly, with good intention and integrity. Highly knowledgeable and experienced, he has used his genius along with his credentials to make an honest, deeply hurting person look like a manipulative, lying user. Devastated.

Dr. Cox repeats the same questions at least twice. He does not dispense drugs for fairly new patients and instead tries to set up more therapy sessions. He does not follow through with what he says. I would never recommend him as a good therapist/psychiatrist.
