Dr. Summers was the first doctor I've talked with that has really spent time to explore my medical history with me and to ensure we were on the same page with things. He is a little curt and blunt but that's what I like in a provider. His reasonings for the approaches we were going to take were great. As a trans woman I felt very safe in his office and would recommend him to others needing a PCP in general.

No Compassion
I saw Dr Summers one time. I explained my ongoing symptoms in detail. I also appeared very ill. He even said so. He ran basic blood work. At follow up visit, he wrote me off as depression, told me I was completely healthy and his treatment was to refer me to a psychiatrist. Went to another Dr who LISTENED to me, my symptoms, determined my illness, sent me for particular testing and found my diagnosis. I am now on the correct medicine and therapy to treat my condition. And no, I was not clinically depressed at all. Three months later, here I am feeling like a different woman, just about back to myself. I'm able to hike, run and play bass again. If I would have went with Dr Summers, I would have been untreated and thrown on psych meds that just would have made everything much worse. Please listen to your patients, it could mean their life.

Excellent doctor, zero BS residue
Scheduling is easy, check in is easy, and Dr. Summers listens and gives unvarnished recommendations. This is the doctor you want if you prefer a minimum of glad handing and a maximum of useful diagnostic advice. Dr. Summers will meet you where you are (medically...) and execute.

Knowledgeable and very trustworthy, he seems to be one of the few HIV specialists in town that is actually board certified in infectious diseases. He is efficient and effective with the time spent and takes a candid approach when communicating with patients. It is my opinion that Dr. Summers, supported by the ample resources of Vivent Health and its caring, professional staff is the premiere provider and best choice for HIV patients in the St. Louis area.

When I first moved to the stl area, my PCP did not understand the needs of an lgbtqia+ person. After some issues a friend recommended Summers (at Southampton at the time).I liked him so much I made him my PCP. When he explained what Vivent was I was excited for him and the lgbtqia+ community. But now the excitement has been traded for sadness and hole in the healthcare needs of the community. It seems as if he no longer has the time for patients. Visits feel rushed, concerns are brushed off or just half listened to, and getting a call back is impossible. Treatment plans / healthcare strategies shift with little to no warning or discussion. The office staff seem to be feeling it too. No longer welcoming, instead they seem disinterested or borderline annoyed at every contact point. Everything is inefficient and rushed, I've cancelled my donations to the org and am searching for a new PCP.

I absolutely recommend Dr. Summers. I moved to Minneapolis, MN a year ago and I am ignored, overlooked and brushed off by every care provider I have encountered here. If you want a doctor who listens and doesn't waste your time, I highly recommend Dr. Summers. He's cut and dry, very simple and a wonderful doctor. I'm not traveling over 500 miles for nothing.

I felt always felt like I was on an assembly line with a revolving door. Rarely did I get a chance to talk. If I did, the questions were brushed off as "normal" or "you worry too much". I sometimes I felt a sense of hostility and sometimes shame if my problem was "sensitive" in nature, but maybe it could have been just a bad day. I felt uneasy about his knowledge and didn't always need an infectious disease doctor. The staff was very inefficient but I guess I can't blame him for that.

Dr Summers has an amazing bedside manner and is always professional. I especially like the way he breaks down what he is saying in layman's terms. He believes you when you tell him something is wrong and never second guesses you. He doesn't rush you through your appointment to try and get to the next patient, and spends the perfect amount of time with you. I would recommend Dr Summers to anyone.

I would recommend Dr. William Summers in a heartbeat. He has a great bedside manner, consumes information that is provided by the patient, and comes up with a solution to your health issue(s). I was admitted into the hospital due to excessive GURD. A repair to a hernia, and stomach reconstructive surgery was performed. Even thought he was not the practicing surgeon, Dr. Summers had taken the time out of his busy schedule to stop by and see how I was recovering.
