Excellent work
I would like to thank Yazeed Ghoussus, MD for his excellent work. I had a spinal surgery on August 5th and it went very well. I was very nervous about the surgery, but he assured me that he would do his best, which he did. I am recovering well and I believe this is due to the doctor’s excellent work. I should also mention that I felt supported throughout this time as I was able to contact the doctor any time. He was very thoughtful and helpful. I am very grateful and cannot thank him enough.

I had gone through L4-L5 fusion with Dr. Gussous. Things for me moved pretty fast as I was not suffering with back pain or leg pain for a long time. MRI results showed severe spinal canal stenosis with AP canal diameter of 0.5 cm L5-L4. My PCP advised me to see a spine surgeon or a neurosurgeon urgently. Around that time my pain in one leg (lower part) was really bad and there were times when I could barely lift my legs to manage walking. After discussing with my PCP, I decided to see to Dr. Gussous (my decision was primarily driven from my choice of the Hospital as I have been going to El Camino Hospital since I moved to CA in 1990, Stanford Hospital was the other option I looked into). I am so glad that I decided to see Dr. Gussous. Dr. Gussous made us feel comfortable within minutes of our first visit. He was never rushing (it felt like I was his only patient), he explained all options and answered all questions. It was pretty clear surgery would be the best option for my condition and waiting would not be the best choice. On the other hand, Dr. Gussous even discussed options for me if I really want to go ahead with my planned trip to Australia and New Zealand pointing out cautions to take and signs not to ignore while traveling. I decided not to go with my travel plan and picked up the earliest availability for the surgery that opened up on the calendar. It is now little over 8 weeks since the surgery - I wanted to wait long enough before writing. Although my surgery got complicated and took much longer than anticipated, I recovered nicely and been back to work since after six weeks of surgery, driving around comfortably, have been managing to take care of myself from second week with some restrictions and some pain (of course). Since Dr. Gussous decided to go with XLIF, my pain has been manageable after surgery and I barely needed prescription pain med (I think three times while at the hospital and once after getting back home). I must mention, Dr. Gussous spent time with me every day I was at the hospital and stopped by Saturday morning for couple of hours and again on Sunday morning. He shared his personal phone number with us so we can (and we did) get in touch with him for any concerns or to ask any question - something we never expected. The team working with Dr. Gussous has been simply great and accessible.

I have been a patient of Dr. Gussous since 2019. I was referred to him by my physiatrist for possible surgery on my lower back. Dr. G was thorough, kind and explained what he could do for me. I was frightened of surgery at my age and chose to delay for another year...of continuing pain. Finally, in November, 2020, with Dr. G’s help and great skill I overcame my hesitation and had multiple level decompression surgery with a very good outcome. Dr. was so attentive throughout the recovery process making sure my family was informed and I was progressing. Many, many thanks.

Got a 40 minute call from Dr. He was distressed by my previous review. He did spend a lot of time but I had to contemplate the visit before ideas came to me. My MRI showed issues at 6 levels. He offered to operate o 1 level. I did NOT have confidence that 1 level would help. I didn't want MORE surgeries. He explained to me that all levels would be dangerous and cause complications. He offered to consult colleagues at the Mayo Clinic and UCSF. He normally would only consult them on complicated cases not a routine one like mine. I am on a subtherapeutic dose of a med. that has multiple uses 1. depression and 2. Nerve and Muscle Pain. This low dose has decreased my pain from 10/10 continuously to 3/10 sometimes. He refused to change my dose. He said He didn't know the med. I couldn't believe a nerve Dr. would not know a nerve drug. He now offered to prescribe the drug which he knew was mostly used for for depression. He told me to call on his cell at any time for ?s.

Dr. Gussous is exceptional in every way. His credentials are impeccable; the long and complex surgery was successful; he listens carefully, explains clearly, and cares deeply about his patients and their families. Having tried everything to resolve the pain and increasing disability caused by severe spinal stenosis, one of my doctors commented that the only surgeon he would have operate on his own back would be Dr Gussous. That was enough for me. I was able to get an appointment quickly and to schedule surgery. He was in touch with my husband during the surgery, sent x-rays, and gave us his cell number. During recovery, he was frequently in touch with me, just to see how I was doing. And now, after only six weeks since surgery, I'm doing remarkably well. I can walk again, and do walk miles every day. Thank you, Dr. Gussous. You are a blessing to me and to so many.

I was referred to Dr. Gussous by my pain physician Dr. Welsh. Dr. Welsh did a couple of spinal injections but we weren’t getting the results we had hoped for. So it became very apparent that I need surgery. Dr. Welsh’s first and only recommendation was Dr. Gussous. He said that if he or any member of his family needed surgery he would sent them to Dr. Gussous. And he was right. I would recommend him to anyone considering spine surgery. Dr. Gussous takes all the time you need to explain and go over the surgery with you. You know exactly what he is going to do. And if you should have more questions after leaving the office all you have to do is text him and he’ll answer right away if he isn’t in surgery. He gives out his cell phone number to his new patients. My surgery went very well and I’m well on my way to recovery. After the surgery your pain is gone immediately. I no longer have sharp pain shooting down my legs or back pain. PS: He also loves strawberries!!

Upon my first visit with Dr. Gussous, I realized that he is competent, sincere, and he genuinely wants to do what is best for me. He handed me his personal cell phone number and encouraged me to contact him for any reasons. He recommended a more conservative approach first, and referred me to an injection doctor to see if it would help my back issue. When it became apparent that a surgery was the way to go, he expedited a slot for me in his busy schedule. My “L4-L5 Discectomy “ was done like clock-work. The pain and numbness down my leg were gone right after the procedure, and I was able to walk with no pain. The next few days after the surgery, we constantly communicated with texts and photos to make sure there were no complications, and I was on my way to a speedy recovery. Before I met Dr. Gussous, I read his reviews. I was surprise to see that ALL his patients gave him 5 starts. Now I know why..!

Dr. Gussous is an exceptional surgeon who corrected my spinal problem with a spinal decompression and a L4-5 fusion. He was thorough and compassionate at every step of my procedure carefully explaining his diagnosis and treatment plan. He involved me at every decision and took time to be sure I understood and was comfortable as we progressed. I have joint problems and this was my 18th surgery in the past 12 years. I got a 2nd and a 3rd opinion before proceeding with Dr. G and I am certain I made the very best choice. He is obviously well trained, extremely capable, and caring. He even used a less invasive technique than the others would have which has certainly aided in my healing. He was ALWAYS available via phone or text when I had questions or concerns, even at 3AM while hospitalized! I would highly recommend him as a strong ally and advocate for your health and wellbeing. I feel fortunate to have him as a doctor who truly cares. I would not hesitate in choosing him again.

After my first meeting with Dr Gussous I knew I was in the right place. The diagnoses, interest and compassion the doctor expressed in my well-being was most comforting. I was informed to have an issue in my neck as well as my lower back. "Tandem Spinal Stenosis". The doctor explained to me in depth and personal exactly how these surgeries will be preformed. "Anterior Cervical Fusion" was preformed, neck first. Result, no upper numbness, tingling, soreness, increased strength and balance. THX

Dr. Gussous is without a doubt an outstanding and talented surgeon with top-notch training and experience, but what makes him truly special is his humanity. He is gracious, sensitive and caring with everyone he encounters. Provided outstanding care and showed genuine concern, not only for my medical condition, but for me as a person. He followed up with me nearly daily by text and I found it refreshing that he was so personally accessible. Treats his patients like family!

There are not enough adequate words to describe the exceptional care I have received from Dr Gussous. When healthcare these days can feel frustrating, and at times as if you are just a number, Dr Gussous is the standout exception! He went above and beyond to make certain that I got the care I needed. What makes this so exceptional is that after refering me to a pain specialist he continued to follow up with me several times to make certain I was receiving relief for my pain. Dr G is OUTSTANDING
