Surgeon Extraordinaire
Dr. Sharfman is a wonderful surgeon. I underwent a lumbar fusion and I still can't believe what a success it has had on my back. Dr. Sharfman doesn't hold any punches, his honesty and genuineness in the details and prognosis only underscores his knowledge and experience. I seriously am so confident in his work, I would tell everyone to go under his care. He will make you a new person. My only regret was waiting as long as I did. If you are in need of an excellent surgeon, he's your doctor, seriously. Kudos to Dr. Sharfman and is wonderful staff.

Laminectomy for spinal stenosis. – Jan 30, 2025

Underwhelmed
My first impression was that Dr. Sharfman is young and has not developed his patient communication skills. I heard a lot of 1) please doctor shop and find the best for you, 2) you are going to hate me because I am going to do diagnostic tests, 3) despite being a surgeon, I want to avoid that for you. I have a chronic back issue, tremendous back experience and specifically came to Dr. Sharfman for diagnostic testing and not surgery. I told him this up front. I also let him know that I had researched doctors and specifically chose him. I wasn’t there to shop around nor find a surgical option but rather have diagnostic testing done to assess the condition of my back. He said I needed an MRI. After a month I called to schedule the MRI despite being told they would call me only to learn an order was never made. I told this to doctor Sharfman and he lied stating he did put the order in but it was kicked out of the system because I have a pacemaker. This was untrue. He referred me to Cedars.

Gave me my life back
Dr. Sharfman has always been personable and completely invested in my journey back to good health. I have suffered from back pain since I was 21, and after undergoing a bilateral laminectomy with microdiscectomy performed by Dr. Sharfman, I am now pain-free. Before the surgery, I spent years just 'dealing' with pain until it became unbearable, eventually landing me in the ER.Dr. Sharfman was the best doctor for getting me back to where I needed to be, and I owe him everything. It's safe to say that I wouldn’t be where I am today without him. He never sugar-coated or made promises he couldn’t keep about the potential outcomes; instead, he always leveled with me about the possibilities and what I could do to make sure I was doing my part for the best possible recovery.Thank you for everything, Dr. Sharfman.

Very thorough and listens
Dr Sharfman is very calm, friendly and LISTENS to what you say, not just the images on screen he see's. He works with you to your level of comfort, helps suggest surgery alternatives and does not sugar coat anything. I never feel rushed, he always is sympathetic to my pain & disabilities. He explains and shows you the problems on the screen, and comparison images if available. I hold him in the highest regard. He will be performing my first spine surgery we agreed on, start conservative!!

This was my first visit with dr. Sharfman. I felt so much better after talking with him. I am 72 years old, and will need more back surgery, and I am confident he will give me back my quality of life that I want. I already thank him for what he has done.
