Dr. Thielen is a great listener to your symptoms and completely explains how he can help. I had total knee replacement and I felt incredible after 3 weeks post op. Dr was so calm and professional during surgery and all Dr visits. He is patient and will answer all questions or concerns you have. The entire staff is phenomenal! I cannot express how great my knee feels and how amazing the entire process was. You are in excellent hands with Dr. Thielen. Highly recommend him.

I am a completely satisfied patient of Dr. Thielen’s. In the last year he replaced both of my hips, and I couldn’t be more pleased. I was nervous at first – but EVERYONE in his office treated me like family. . .it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, (if you consider surgery enjoyable)!Dr. Thielen was thoughtful, kind, and meticulous in his overall treatment of me, taking great care to have all the necessary scans and tests performed and carefully analyzed before surgery. I was always able to contact his office if I need more questions answered, which reduced a lot of anxiety. I would enthusiastically recommend Dr. Thielen to anyone considering orthopedic treatment.

I would have Dr. Thielen as my orthopedist even if I lived on the mainland U.S. He replaced both my hips earlier this year (and both are pain-free with total mobility) but also solved a problem I had in one of my hands. He's thoroughly professional, but friendly in a way that makes you feel part of the family. Highest recommendation.

Had the first knee replaced - his advice to strengthen it with PT BEFORE the surgery made the recovery go quickly. So well, I was able to take a trip to Europe after only 3 months. At 5 months I had the 2nd knee replaced. Within 3 days it was 90% better than prior! Now at 8 months & 3 months post-op I can say that I have ZERO pain in either knee! Going up stairs and walking give me no trouble anymore! Taking another 3 week trip now and when I return, I plan to resume my hobby of ballroom dancing. It is wonderful to have my life back instead of always looking for alternatives when my mobility wasn't up to activity. So glad I did it - while I would have benefited from doing this years sooner, when the pain interfered with everything in my life, my motivation was high to do all the PT and home exercises which I know contributed to my success.

While my knee was in bad shape, my hip was giving me pretty constant pain. Dr. Thielen performed the hip replacement surgery and all was good. Then the knee started deteriorating more and after PT and shots were ineffective, it was time to replace the knee. Even though it was less than a year from the hip replacement, I knew the quality of Dr. Thielen's work and didn't hesitate to have the surgery. Now I can walk farther than I have in years without pain. Dr. Thielen is a talented surgeon and someone who tells it like it is and has a good rapport with patients. Mahalo Dr. Thielen for helping me improve the quality of my life.

Dr Theilen did my knee replacement August 2023. I have a very low pain tolerance as a former Physical Therapist. I was doing all my rehab and doing well except there were some residual pain underneath the patellar tendon so I asked him to please check out that Niehert maneuvered it in the office and he was able to loosen up which turned out to be some nerve pain so by the end of four months I was completely pain-free. I so appreciate Dr Theilen, being compassionate and encouraging and being an excellent surgeon, I would highly recommend him.

Dr. Thielen was recommended by several paddling friends when I needed a left hip replacement. The surgery went smoothly and in 3 months I was back to full activities. Earlier this year I had a bicycle accident. I was seen in the ER at MMH and told I needed surgery. I had fractured my right hip and severely injured my elbow. I was discharged and told to see an Orthopedic doctor asap. I called Dr. Thielen’s office and saw him the same day. He operated on both sites. The hip healed quickly. The arm has been a challenge but continues to improve thanks to Dr. Thielen’s care.

I had both my knees done here after deciding not to go to the mainland as Dr Thielen was highly recommended. My questions were answered to my satisfaction even though I sometimes asked the same ones twice!

I was very satisfied with everything about my experience @ Maui Orthopedic Institute. I felt comfortable during my visits with Dr. Thielen. He explained the whole process in a way that was easy for me to understand, while also feeling comfortable enough to ask questions. The procedure was a success, with my new titanium hip, and there were no problems with the rehab to follow . The visits with both Dr. Thielan and his P.A. preparing and after were timely, with no long waits. The care throughout the whole process was very professional, and felt personalized.

Now six months later I am enjoying full use of my badly injured leg that Dr. Thielen repaired.
