Horrendous
He screamed in my face for being a dnr, he belittled me, told me i could leave if i didn’t like it, told me it was MY fault he was late for vacation, oh and he was supposed to put in a pacemakerdefibrillator but told me he didn’t have time and i either got a pacemaker or nothing at all. Mind you i was in a complete heart block 3rd degree

Terse and unattentive
I was scheduled for a consult with Dr. Zhou with the understanding that he was going to do heart valve replacement surgery for me. We sat in the patient room a full 2 hours waiting to see him. When he finally came in he spoke at me for less than 5 minutes (he speaks at you, not to you or with you). He did not have the guts to tell me he was not going to do my surgery and send me back to my cardiology dept. He said I did not need the mitral valve repaired, not bad enough. I did not find out that he was not going to do the surgery until my cardiology dept called me to set up another consult with someone from my own cardiology dept who would to the aortic valve replacement surgery. Dr Zhou is not personable and tersely answered my 2 questions already knowing he would not do the surgery. He is a brilliant surgeon so I am told; but I will never ever be referred to him again.

My Hero
Dr. Zhou replaced my mitral valve after waiting 5 year for a Dr. to take it on. Last one messed me up. Dr. Zhou jumped right in & said “I got you”. And he did. He not only replaced the valve under challenging circumstances but was also able to reverse my permanent afib of 5 yrs. My family and I owe him a big debt of gratitude.

Avoid! Does NOT listen! He made me very anxious and I am not generally an anxious person. He was determined to do maximum surgery possible when other less invasive options are available. Actually went ahead and scheduled maximum heart surgery on me without me agreeing to it! Scary . Instead of going ahead with the surgery I went for second opinion elsewhere. Testing ( which he did not bother to order) proved I qualified for minimally invasive heart surgery (-which I did have but not with this surgeon). I do not recommend this doctor

Ten years ago June 4 2009 with about 30 minutes notice Dr. Zhou did double bypass on me. I'm still here so I don't think I could have hoped for better results

Saved (prolonged) my life. His staff compensate for his cryptic communications. He took me on when we learned (age 73) that I had 5 blocked arteries. Performed bypass surgery at St Joseph's 2 weeks later. Immediate improvement. Dr Zhou doesn't talk much (understatement), but his excellent PAs do: they are knowledgeable, patient, thorough, and obviously admire him. Office staff are professional and patient-centered. The whole experience affirmed the "team approach" that the literature advocates
