While she had a good idea for beginning to tackle my concern, I didn't feel like she listened to me very well. I was asked the same questions multiple times so I wasn't sure if she listened the first time. I also would try to explain a concern and she told me to "stop thinking that" or eluded that my concerns are wrong because I'm "not stupid". I know that I am smart, which is why I am seeking a trained professional to help me build skills to manage a diagnosis. I also don't think using "stupid" when referring to a client is helpful or professional - especially when I didn't bring that up at all. There are SO MANY other ways to frame that without resorting to ableist language. I think she probably has good ideas and solutions, but my visit felt like it was lacking structure, collaboration (which is important to me), and respect/compassion (very important to me).
