Dr. Anthony Demaria, PHD

Anthony worked with me to help manage my depression and difficulty with low self esteem. When my insurance changed, he worked with me to get a single case agreement so that my appointment would be covered by an insurance company that he does not usually accept. He was incredibly helpful from start to finish.

Dr. DeMaria is not a doctor to work with if you want someone to nod along and make you feel better about your poor decision making. He can be incisive, and the emotions he forces you to grapple with can be painful, but I realize now that’s how progress happens. He’s not necessarily a fuzzy “oh, poor you” guy, but I didn’t want him to be—that approach had gotten me nowhere over the years. I’m deeply appreciative of the insight and coping strategies he provided me, and would recommend him to anyone who feels they are stuck on a hamster wheel with their current therapist. I feel better equipped to handle my fears and negative emotions thanks to our sessions.

I saw Dr. Anthony DeMaria for a few months. He was extremely invalidating. I went to therapy to heal. Going to therapy with him seemed to have the opposite effect. I dreaded having sessions with him. Avoid him if you can!!

I saw Dr. De Maria only a few times in 2017. I was referred to him by a psychiatrist. I found him to be extremely harsh and to have a predisposition to find personality disorders where none existed. I also found him to be disingenuous regarding his out of network status. As I found out when I submitted my bills for reimbursement, a provider cannot be both in network (that is, the hospital) and out of network at the same time. You are one or the other if you are seen in a therapist's office in the hospital. It is just wrong of Dr. De Maria to perpetrate this out of network identification.
