Asya Portnaya, CM

My wife had gone to this Ob/gyn practice very early in her pregnancy. First 2 visits went fine, but we saw a new doctor every-time. On the 3rd visit about week 5 into the pregnancy CM(midwife) “Asya Portnaya” seen us and ordered the usual sonogram/urine test. During the sonogram all went well we seen a “Faint Structure in Gestational Sac” and no cardiac activity which is pretty normal so early in the pregnancy. But CM Portnaya after reviewing the sonogram diagnosed a “miscarriage”. Without any sonogram followup or bloodwork to confirm her suspicions she even told us to schedule a D&C to quicken the miscarriage. In our hearts and according to the report as well we knew we had to get a second opinion. During our second opinion from another OB/gyn practice we came to find out we had a absolutely healthy pregnancy. Best midwife and birthing experience any woman could dream of! Attentive, conscious, open, respectful.

The worst experience ever..During our consultations with her, she assured us that she would be there for the delivery; when it came time to deliver she was no where to be found. I nearly lost my life after an impromptu ceasarean. After all my ordeal, she had the nerve to tell me that I could have had a vaginal birth because the baby was not in great danger after all. Well, where were you to support me during this important time in my life. Not recommended....not reliable and very insensitive

I absolutely love Asya! She makes going to the GYN a comfortable and relaxed experience every time. Her persona is always down to earth & straight forward, yet witty. I truly feel reassured that she knows what she's talking about and doesn't get annoyed when I'm asking multiple questions - she will literally sit there and educate me. Knowledgeable, professional and extremely pleasant! I highly recommend her and once I move, I would definitely travel back to Brooklyn just to keep her as my OBGYN
