I was diagnosed with lymphedema after a bilateral mastectomy. I went to Cynthia in hopes of talking about lymphatic massage, lymphedema, and lipedema. She sat across the room and asked me several questions. Without examining me. She told me I didn't have lymphedema, it was just my chronic health issues causing inflammation. She said that lymphedema isn't painful, you can't get it just from having surgery, that you can't develop it in the stomach unless you have stage IV colon or stomach cancer. She said you are born with lipedema, it isn't something that just develops. I was in disbelief of her basically dismissing me. After she found out that her good friend diagnosed me with lymphedema, all of the sudden she was talking about treatment plans. If she didn't think it was lymphedema, why talk to me about treatment options? I DO have lymphedema in my arm and was diagnosed by 2 people. Sadly, only 2 lymphedema OT's in the area. I would go elsewhere. I will be getting help out of state.
