Beth was supportive in the beginning, and I felt hopeful about our work. She created a safe space for me to open up early on, and I appreciated the rapport we built. But as things got more complex, I started to feel less understood. I know therapists are human and life happens but I still deserved a space that felt consistent and supportive. When I gave feedback about things that felt hurtful or off, it was never received well. Instead of meeting me where I was, I felt blamed for not progressing at a pace that I felt Beth thought I should be moving at. That, along with her inconsistent emotional presence, made it hard for me to stay motivated to do the work. Maybe her style works for other clients but it wasn’t the right fit for me.
